Every once in a while, I suppose the photographer should actually get in front of the camera...

We had a rare morning off together, so we loaded up the camera, tripod and our two fur babies and were out the door by sunrise to beat the heat, the wind and all the other fun northwest Oklahoma likes to throw at you in August.

The plan was simple. Tripod + timer + a few family pictures.

What could possibly go wrong?

Well... there were approximately 547,000 sand burr stickers, also known as northwest Oklahoma's regional flower.

Then, while we were taking a few pictures without the pups, Sophie (in all her excitement to watch) somehow managed to LOCK US OUT OF THE JEEP. With both dogs inside the nice, ice cold a/c.

You can't make this stuff up.

Shout out to our local park ranger and friends of ours who came to our rescue and got us back into the Jeep!

Somewhere in the middle of all of this, I had to reassure my husband that my photo sessions do NOT typically go like this.

But we got the pictures, nobody melted in the heat, we eventually got back into the Jeep, and now we have a story that will probably make us laugh every time we look at these.

Just a little reminder that the pictures don't have to come from a perfectly executed morning to be worth having. Sometimes the chaos that happens along the way ends up being part of the memory too.

A little teamwork behind the scenes made for a pretty great night at Enterline Field!

A big thank you to Mooreland All-Sports for letting Sandhill tag-team Media Day with them. While they brought the fun, we were able to knock out Varsity Football + Varsity Cheer photos and squeeze in quite a few All-Sports Program ad photos while everyone was already together.

And those extras? They’re pretty hard to beat.

Siblings, families, teammates, coaches with their families... and of course, those senior football moms absolutely had to jump in with their boys. Because we all know those are going to be some of the photos that mean the most a few years from now.

Formal team photos are great, but sometimes it’s those extra five minutes and the photos we sneak in along the way that end up being some of the favorites.

Mooreland Varsity Football + Cheer | 2026

When a team agrees to meet in the middle of a dried-up river for pictures, you know you have a pretty special crew... and Mooreland XC is something special.

The neon shorts, the personalities, the friendships, the ridiculous amount of laughter, and a group of kids who genuinely enjoy being together. They work hard, show up for one another, chase some pretty big goals, and have a whole lot of fun along the way.

There’s just something about this program. Years of tradition, countless miles, plenty of success, and a culture that continues to be passed from one group to the next. But as proud as we are of what they accomplish on the course, it’s the people behind those accomplishments that make Mooreland XC what it is.

And team picture night doesn't have to be just team pictures.

Along with the formals, we snuck in sibling photos, family combinations, friend shots, plenty of candids, and even knocked out a few photos needed for Mooreland All-Sports Program ads while everyone was together. Because sometimes those five extra minutes end up producing some of the favorites from the entire night.

Next up, Varsity Football + Varsity Cheer tonight! Sandhill Photography will be at Mooreland Media Day from 7:00–8:00 PM at Enterline Field, and just like XC night, we can grab additional sibling, family, friend or individual photos needed for All-Sports Program ads while we’re there. Come find us!

Fall sports photography starts TOMORROW!

We kick things off with JH & HS Cross Country at the Cimarron River, with Football, Cheer and Softball following over the next couple of weeks.

A reminder that these sessions aren't just for team and individual photos. If you need photos for a Mooreland All-Sports Program ad, we can take those during any of the scheduled sessions as well. Students do not have to be participating in the sport being photographed that evening. I'll also be available during Open House on Tuesday evening for additional All-Sports Program ad photos if needed. Perfect for those sibling pics!

Every senior deserves to have this season of life remembered.

For the past six years, I've quietly gifted a Senior Story Session to one graduating senior who may not otherwise have the opportunity to receive professional senior portraits.

This year, I'd love your help finding the next story.

Mooreland Sports Photo Schedule

Our Fall Sports photography schedule is set!

In addition to team and individual photos, we'll also be taking All-Sports Program ad photos during each session. If you're planning to purchase an ad in this year's program, this is a great opportunity to have custom photos taken while we're already on location.

• August 10 – JH/HS Cross Country @ Cimarron River (7:15 PM)
