"Melancholy"

The second of my 3-part foggy foliage series, this image captures a darker mood to the usually cheerful time of year. This land was logged many years ago and the new growth hosts a full spectrum of fall color. I appreciated the ominous feeling that the intermittent mature trees added to the scene. In the full resolution photo (this can print over 4 ft tall), you can just make out a group of 15-20 turkeys grazing through the field, undisturbed by the torrential that had just passed through.

"Longing"

As rain clouds enveloped my neighborhood, I took advantage of a couple breaks in the storm to capture three new images, each with a different energy and perspective. This view never gets old, and I'm sure you can understand why I find myself frequently grateful for the blessing it is to live so close to scenery like this!

Exciting news! Earlier this year, I was honored to be accepted as a juried member to the League of NH Craftsmen. This has been a dream of mine since I first learned about the league in 2019. Through the jury process, I was given some incredible advice that has already shaped my approach to photography, and I'm so thrilled to now be a part of a prestigious group of artists.

"Rush"

A devastating summer of rain in upstate New York led to a rare and incredible volume of water at the Flume Falls. The sheer force and power of the water was unlike anything I've seen before, and I thought a dark monochrome captured this energy perfectly.

It's been a while since my last post, but I've continued to edit and photograph some new scenes. When I travel for work, I try to bring the camera and capture at least one image each trip. This time, I found myself back in the Finger Lakes region and was able to catch this scene of a frozen Taughannock Falls.

Photographing the same subject twice is generally against my "rules", but this piece is from such a different vantage point than the black and white from 2024. Frozen waterfalls continue to be my favorite scenes, despite the frozen hands that go along with them!

🚨 Save the Date! 🚨

I'm excited to participate as a vendor in this year's Warner Fall Foliage Festival! This event is always a major attraction near the peak of New Hampshire's stunning autumn season. I'll be at booth 104 on Kearsarge Mountain Road all day on October 12-13.

More details about parking to come on my page. You can always visit the festival's website or page for up-to-date information. I hope to see you there!

Hawk Falls

A quick weekend trip to Pennsylvania led me to Hickory Run State Park on my way back to the second week of a business trip. This was probably my shortest trip ever to an unseen photography site, and I was fortunate on a tight travel timeline to find momentary solitude that allowed for a speedy setup, composition, and breakdown. The rhododendron that blanketed the forest was unlike anything I've seen, and I hope to explore more of the area in the future.

Cascade Falls

Frequent summer storms brought uncharacteristically heavy rains to northern Vermont and upstate New York this summer. Local waterfalls surged with mountain runoff in the Lake Placid region, and this waterfall was no exception. Usually a thinner trickle, Cascade Falls was quite a sight even from the road. To capture its full power, I chose not to hike the trail alongside the falls, and instead used a telephoto lens to photograph this panorama from afar.

A dense fog in the neighborhood led to this scene yesterday evening. These birches are just steps into the woods behind our house, but I've been waiting on a photo until a perfect foggy day like yesterday. We only get this kind of cloud cover once or twice a year, so I was excited that the weather finally lined up with the bright spring greens!

Taughannock Falls

Amidst the solar eclipse frenzy in western NY, I was driving out for a business trip and took a detour to the Ithaca area to visit the tallest waterfall east of the Mississippi. Scenery is bland this time of year before the foliage comes in, so I chose this spot over other local waterfalls because of its ideal characteristics for a rich black and white image.

Gleason Falls

I've known about this waterfall and old stone bridge since late last year, and have been waiting patiently for the summertime foliage and the right weather conditions to score the perfect scene. Waterfalls photograph nicely in cloudy weather, and for a long exposure, I also look for days with no wind. While raging waterfalls are fun to see, they don't lend well to quality photographs, and the recent record-breaking rainfall we've had in New Hampshire has frequently overwhelmed this spot. Finally, in between storms, we were fortunate to have a moment to explore the scene, and I was pleased that the water had calmed enough for a photograph. The scenes near our home continue to amaze me even after a year!
