Let's talk about sericea lespedeza.
If you've got open ground or old fields, there's a good chance you're dealing with this one. It spreads like crazy, and once it takes hold it's tough to get back under control.

The one thing it has going for it is cover. That thick, woody structure will hold deer for bedding and works as screening on edges. But that's about where the upside ends.

The bigger problem is what it does to everything around it. Sericea outcompetes native forage and takes over ground fast, and it's high in tannins, which makes it low-value browse for deer. So you end up with a stand that looks like habitat but crowds out the plants that actually feed your herd. It's listed as a noxious w**d in Missouri for good reason.

I'd put this one firmly in the challenge column. A little cover doesn't make up for how aggressively it takes over.
