Scattered thunderstorms will develop ahead of a cold front this evening. Isolated damaging wind gusts possible.

Northern IL: A tornado risk is still in affect. Although a tornado watch is unlikely, that can’t stop an isolated tornado or 2. Main threats are wind gusts up to 60mph, heavy rain, large hail, and a tornado or 2. Frequent lightning is also a concern.

Latest outlook from SPC has expanded the slight risk to include a good majority of Northern Illinois for strong to severe storms later in tonight (after 8-10pm). Main hazard's include 60 mph wind gusts but quarter size hail and a brief tornado cannot be ruled out.

What we know for Sunday here in Illinois:

Temperatures will be in the upper 60s lower 70s

Dew points will be in the 60s (humidity triggering storms)

Rare November Thunderstorms are likely/expected

Extremely rare November Severe Thunderstorms possible

The models show main threats to be damaging winds and hail

Although not out of the question, supercell Developement is indeed possible

Rain does not appear to be an issue

Storms will fire up by 4PM Central

Places west of the city near the Iowa border may experience heavy Severe Thunderstorms with possible tornadoes.

Scattered storms favored mid-morning through early afternoon, especially south of a Rockford to Joliet line. More storms likely late tonight. Severe threat is only possible late tonight through overnight hours as storms grow more numerous.

For my fellow eclipse hypers... STAY HYPED! Cloud cover is somewhat expected this noon-afternoon however, thinning is possible and you can still see the "total" eclipse through the breaks in the clouds. Just remember one thing. DON'T LOOK DIRECTLY OUT IT WITHOUT PROTECTION!!!
