Iโ€™ve been a bit MIA.
The past couple of months have been spent moving across the state, setting up our new home, and closing the chapter on our old one, learning a new city, and packing for a trip. With all of this, itโ€™s left little time for me to pick up my camera.
But that should change now that the chaos of the last couple months has slowed down.
Excited to get back to what fuels my soul.
Thanks for sticking around โค๏ธ

We planned for a slower pace on Sunday and spent the day at the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone. Itโ€™s home to a mix of resident trouble-maker bears, wolves born at the center, birds of prey that can no longer hunt on their own, and playful otters. The bears even play an important role in testing bear-resistant productsโ€”think garbage cans and Yeti coolers. The animals are rotated out while their habitats are refreshed with new food, scents, and enrichment to keep them engaged.

With fewer visitors this time of year, we were able to linger for a few hours, watching and learning from the incredibly knowledgeable staff.

What stayed with me most were the bearsโ€™ stories. Each one reflects repeated efforts to relocate and deter them from neighborhood garbage and campsites. When all options are exhausted, the center becomes a safe, permanent homeโ€”an alternative to euthanizing animals for non-aggressive, learned behavior.

10/10 would recommend a visit if you ever find yourself in West Yellowstone!

On Saturday, we drove from Dubois, Wyoming to West Yellowstone. Snow sparkled at the higher elevations, but as we descended, it gradually disappeared. The area is unseasonably warm and dryโ€”which is a bit of a bummerโ€”but I canโ€™t complain too much since weโ€™re able to be outside without our fingers falling off ๐Ÿคฃ

I wanted to stop at the Snake River Overlook and attempt to recreate the famous Ansel Adams photograph. Nothing compares to the original, but I gave it my best shot. Itโ€™s incredible to see how much the trees have grown, while the overall landscape remains largely unchanged.

Along the way, we decided to see if we could reach the T.A. Moulton Barn. Normally the road would be closed, requiring about a mile-long walk, but thanks to the lack of snow, we were able to drive right up. Afterward, we spent some time exploring Kelly Warm Spring, where we spotted two moose far out in the sage.

The road back looped around to the area where we had seen moose the night before, and as luck would have it, another group of four bulls was napping there. These looked a bit bigger than the ones weโ€™d seen on Friday.

We also spotted another group farther from the road along the tree lineโ€”appearing to be four or five more bulls.

Our drive through Idaho took us through classic potato country, with beautiful views of the western side of the Tetons. Weโ€™re looking forward to spending the next couple of days in West Yellowstone!

Words I would use to describe yesterday: unreal, a dream, overwhelming, once in a lifetime....
The day started by watching snow and clouds moving over the mountain tops. We went down a quiet road and found two bull moose bedded down in some brush - two moose at once, not too shabby right??
Next I wanted to see if I could locate the elk herd as I knew they were headed towards the elk refuge and we'd seen them at a distance the night before.
We saw a couple cars pulled over which is the best hint that there's something going on. I couldn't believe my eyes! SEVEN bull moose were bedded down together in the sage. We knew we had to wait it out as closer to sunset they should get up. As we watched, three more bulls came out of the tree line further away. Now we have TEN.
We got out of the car to see if we could get a better angle on the moose at the end, as I was confident it was Hoback, a roughly 15-17 year old bull who was King of the Tetons and is now slowly fading away. The old man is looking pretty tired and some think this will be his last winter. It was truly an honor to be in his presence โค๏ธ

After over an hour, the group started to move. We were even treated to a bit of sparing.

Scratch this off the bucket list!!

We drove down from Bozeman, MT through Idaho to Dubois, WY on Wednesday night. On our way through Jackson Hole, we stopped to watch two bull moose cross the river as it was getting dark. Yesterday, we spent most of the day in Grand Teton National Park, crossing the Continental Divide, and stopping to take in the views along the way. In total we saw six moose, a giant herd of migrating elk, bison in the distance, and finished the day with a fox that crossed the road in front of us on our way back our cabin. Excited for another day of adventures!
