Sage Mountain Photography A nature photographer of all things big, small and beyond in Montana, I have a passion for the outdoors and science. Thank you, Judy Boyle

One of my photos can be found in Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Montana Outdoors 45th Annual Photo Issue magazine. My father sparked my passion for photography early, and I am so thankful that he did. Viewing nature through the lens has blessed me with understanding how awe-inspiring our natural world is. These beautiful, petite flowers always bring joy and a smile to my face when I see them. They are called Lanceleaf springbeauty and are found in all of the western US states. The corms are dug up by grizzly bears because of their nutritional value, and they are also a nutritional treat for humans raw or cooked. Meriwether Lewis collected the first documented species in 1806 while on the Lewis and Clark Expedition, aka Corp of Discovery. Aren't they sweet?

The sound of the recent rains on the roof, the smell of the wet pines, and the dramatic gray clouds were a delightful blessing to a drought stricken Montana. Walking through the wet meadow, I was delighted to see a Silver Lupine collecting raindrops on its leaves. A lupine star!

I love springtime in Montana. The grass is green and sprinkled with dandelions, the mountains are covered in snow. The snowpack means tributaries will fill our rivers as long as our temperatures stay cool. Warren Peak aka Mount Warren stands tall in the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness. It stands 10,463 feet tall and straddles the Continental Divide. It is a stunning peak.

In January, two of my prints were sold to a couple in Westport, Connecticut. They received the prints from the framers and sent these pictures to me. I am so grateful, honored, and inspired to have my photos displayed in someone's home. It is so apropos to put photos of an aspen leaf and the To***co Root Mountains of Montana next to a Buffalo Bill poster that was gifted to the wife while she was working in an art gallery. They now have a wall of the west!

Mammatus Clouds hang over an area of sw Montana. Looking west, they loomed over the Highland Mountains and moved overhead. Here is what the UCAR Center for Science Education had to say about them.

"Mammatus clouds are pouches of clouds that hang underneath the base of a cloud. They are most often associated with cumulonimbus clouds that produce very strong storms. These clouds usually form during warm months, and are formed by descending air in the cloud. Mammatus clouds are sometimes described a looking like a field of tennis balls or melons, or like female human breasts. In fact, the name "mammatus" comes from the latin word mamma, or breast."

They seem so ominous, but beautiful. Clouds truly are amazing as all of nature is!
