November 12th, 2017, 6:00 pm - I was sitting in a class at my church led by the pastor’s wife, Sister Dee. I’ve never actually thought of her name in the old “sister Carol” or “brother John” kind of way. More like a first name: Sister. I can’t recall exactly what she was preaching about, but I do remember that she came into the room like a fighter jet, and we were all swept along in the turbulence. After a while, pastor joined in and it was like having church in the happiest volcano ever. I have a few videos of the preaching that I’ll include with a video version of this story someday. Anyways, that week I got closer to God than I ever had. I studied the Bible more, prayed more, and listened to two books on audible about burning the impurities out of your hurt. One was called “Killing Kryptonite” by John Bevere. That Thursday night I prayed for three hours straight, much to the chagrin of my neighbors, asking for God to show up in my life like I knew He should be if I’d been following Him like I should have. The next morning I was listening to John Bevere on youtube while working through statements. He’s talking about how he overcame his p**n addiction by fasting and praying alone for four days. Then he talked about how he found out his life purpose by fasting and seeking God for four days straight again alone in a friend’s apartment he borrowed. I remember wishing I had such an opportunity. Fifteen minutes later my supervisor tapped me on the shoulder and asked me to follow her and our HR rep into a conference room I’d never been in before. I honestly thought it was about a promotion or something, as I’d been killing it lately and had even redesigned some aspects of our workload to make the workflow faster. When they got around to “we’re laying you off.” I laughed hard for a full five seconds while they sat there confused thinking maybe that this is what happened before a crazy person kills. They made sure I knew that it was a monetary issue for the company and my performance had nothing to do with it. I smiled happily and said my good-byes.
In this interesting world of ours, my view is that if you want to get paid more, you have to work harder. Clearly that wasn’t the case, but I wanted it to be. So by Christmas I had a camera. A week later I had a wedding scheduled for May and an engagement shoot scheduled for January. By mid-March I’d learned the equivalent of an associates degree of information about lighting, composition, shutter speed, frame rates, ISO, white balance, focus, editing, audio, and about ten million other things that were necessary to process from second to second on a shoot.
From the ground up, this company was founded by God. He fuels the company and points it where it’s going. By faith, it will become a powerhouse media firm that spreads across the world. Every passionate moment put into this company is because of Him and I will declare that every time anyone congratulates or thanks me for a job well-done.
