Day 11 of 30 Days of Noticing: Afternoons.

Afternoons have always been one of my favorite times of day. There’s a softness that settles in as the sun begins to lower—a quiet that brings a sense of peace with it.

I think it takes me back to afternoons spent at my grandparents’ house, when everything was still, naps were being taken, and, if it was summer, an afternoon thunderstorm might be rolling through. It was such a peaceful time in my life.

And now, almost like magic, I feel that same softness settle over my own home every afternoon.

On the way to school today, my son noticed the bronzed treetops and said, “Mama, the trees are changing color.”

As often as I pause to notice the world around me, I had somehow missed autumn’s slow return among the leaves. I’m so grateful he reminded me to look.

Day 5 of my 30 Days of Noticing Challenge: The photographer in the mirror.

Photography has been woven through nearly every part of my adult life, yet I’m only now beginning to fully claim it as part of who I am.

Scenes from a lovely Mother’s Day 🌿

I’m so disappointed because I was so busy visiting and spending time with my own mom that I completely forgot to take photos of us together today.

The morning started with me admiring my Mother’s Day gift — new curtains — followed by a tiny photoshoot of them with my sunny bird 🐈☀️

Then at sunset, after realizing I forgot to take photos with my own mom, I insisted we take some family photos with my son, husband, and mother in law instead. A beautiful, full day spent with the people I love most. 🤍
