“We are a seed patiently waiting in the earth: waiting to come up a flower in the Gardener's good time, up into the real world, the real waking. I suppose that our whole present life, looked back on from there, will seem only a drowsy half-waking. We are here in the land of dreams. But cock-crow is coming.”
― C. S. Lewis
I'm only starting to understand that mid life is a rebirth, a renewal if we let it. The insecurities of our 20s, and the overconfident attitude of our 30s is being stripped away. Like a death. Like a "single seed" that has to die.
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat fall into the earth and die, it abideth by itself alone; but if it die, it beareth much fruit."
Yes, this is primarily about Jesus. His Sacrifice.
But , as with everything Christ taught there are layers that we can enter into if we will take the trouble.
Could it also be that part of the key is in the second half of the verse? Yes, dying to myself and sin , and even hopes and plans sometimes.
But also, dying to aloneness, aloofness, independence so that I can humbly build a true community, where I can be open about my struggles with other believers. Where I can leave self preservations in the past, a distant memory.
