The first in (hopefully) many articles I'm hoping to do about decoding climate change and the science behind it. This week I tried to provide some background and explanations for why a warming Earth can mean colder winters in the Northern Hemisphere. This will be an evolving project so check it out and I should hopefully have more out in the coming weeks

Global Warming and Global Cooling on Robbie O'Donnell

01/10/2018

So recently I’ve decided to start a project focusing on science communication, with a special emphasis on clearing up a lot of misinformation going around about climate change and it’s impacts. Coming from grad school I noticed it was increasingly difficult to talk about such a huge and complex idea like climate change without people getting bored or upset or stand-off-ish. I started to see this gigantic gap between scientists and the general public, due to their notoriously bad track record of communication. I figured I was kind of smack in the middle of it all having a strong environmental/climate background and being what I consider “like a normal guy”. So this is a little intro of what I’m hoping to do. This isn’t meant to be political or directed at any one audience or people. I just want to lay out the facts about some issues in a way that everyone can understand and identify with.

I should hopefully be putting out the first post soon talking about how extreme cold spells (like the one we just had) can actually be caused by a changing climate and the inaccuracies of saying “it’s cold so global warming must not exist”.

ATTENTION: All east coast cinematographers, directors, photographers, surfers, musicians, artists, scientists, and creatives…I need your help. I want to make a surf/environmental documentary along the east coast that’s made entirely by the people who live and love this coast. Unfortunately, I do not have the means to do this, I just have an idea. But that’s all we need right? If you shoot on RED or know people who would be interested in a project like this, please contact me. I want east coast sourced music, cinematographers, photographers, surfers, and scientists. If you live anywhere from Newfoundland to the Florida Keys and this peaks your interest let me know, and tell your friends. For now, this would be unfunded and completely a passion project that I’ve wanted to make for a long time now. In the end I just want to shed some light on the culture of this coast that all us east coasters all call home, as well as the potentially dangerous environmental situation that we may come to inherit. Contact info in bio as well as HERE ([email protected]).

I always try and keep some of my favorite shots on the SD card I'm shooting with just in case there is an opportunity to play with multiple exposures. This was one of those times //
