His blood made of engagement, his thoughts of images. His pictures often in black and white, his view on life in many colors.

No altering of photo's through Photoshop or AI. Henk Braam is an acclaimed photographer born in Broken Hill, Zambia, in 1960. He completed his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Arnhem in 1984. Career Focus He initially worked for Amnesty International and later joined the photo agency Hollandse Hoogte. He has traveled extensively, often for organizations such as Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), the Liliane Fund, and Amnesty International, documenting war, famine, natural disasters, and the aftermath of genocide in various countries including Rwanda, India, Niger, Sri Lanka, and China. His work is often characterized by its engaged, black-and-white style. Awards He has won several prizes, including first prize in the Dutch "Zilveren Camera" contest for a series on the student riots in Jakarta in 1998. Other Work He has also photographed for culinary magazines in Europe and given workshops and lectures at institutions like the Minerva Academy in Groningen. He is a member of the GKf, a professional association for photographers. Personal Philosophy Braam states that through his camera, he tries to understand the world, and his travels have taught him that all humans are equal. He is currently a retired photographer and full-time traveler living in Southeast Asia. Henk Braam's photography style can be described as classic photojournalism and "old school" street photography, inspired by masters like Henri Cartier-Bresson. His work is characterized by a strong commitment to reality and minimal post-processing. Key Characteristics of His Style:

Photojournalism/Documentary: A significant portion of his work involves documenting human stories and global events. "Decisive Moment" Street Photography: In his personal work, particularly his "Braams Blik" series on Nijmegen, he employs a keen eye for the "decisive moment," a core tenet of classic street photography where a fleeting action and perfect composition are captured in a single frame. Black and White Focus: Many of his photographs are in black and white, a choice that emphasizes form, composition, and emotion over color, lending a timeless, stark quality to his images. Authenticity and Realism (No "Pimping"): Braam strongly believes in showing reality as it is. He intentionally limits post-processing (e.g., Photoshop) to ensure his photos remain authentic documents of the moment, relying instead on composition, light, and timing. Humanitarian Subject Matter: The lives of vulnerable people and human equality are recurring themes, reflecting his background as the son of aid workers and his extensive work with non-profits. His portfolio, available on his website, showcases this blend of rigorous documentary work and artistic street photography.
