This is a throwback to our trip in Kauai 3 years ago on our honeymoon. It was really fun to go back and process all of the images again and edit up our helicopter footage into a narrated YouTube video. The scenery on the island is just stunning. While this shot was not from a helicopter, some of my all-time favorite images are. Kauai is a special place, and good images are abundant.

New video is live! If you want to see the difference between DSLR and mirrorless cameras regarding image quality, this is a good video. Took me long enough to push out the door. Filmed it nearly a month ago. Oh well. This might be my favorite one to date. Put a bit of thought into it ahead of time and I think it shows.

Lake McDonald is a regional icon everyone who has been there can see why. The colorful stones along the shore and towering mountains in the background often present themselves with a reflection that is unrivaled. I am happy to have shot my latest YouTube video there released today comparing my old camera, the Nikon D750, to my new camera, the Nikon Z7II. It was a fun comparison and largely resulted in similar images, but of course, the differences between DSLR and mirrorless are interesting to discuss nonetheless.

Here is an image from the last time I was in the Park. It was a beautiful evening and I had this beach all to myself. I took several photos that afternoon but I think this was my favorite. I was filming a YouTube video comparing camera bodies that I have, particularly comparing my new Nikon Z7II to my old Nikon D750. It's a big upgrade. That video goes live tomorrow. I beat myself up now though because when I took this shot at the end of the day, the back of the camera screen didn't make this image look all that impressive, so I didn't include it in the comparison. But upon getting back to the computer, this was probably my favorite image of the trip and the sky interest was just what I was looking for. Oh well. Still a great time and still an image I am happy to walk away with.

I am a day late posting here about Arbor Day. Trees are remarkable natural architecture. We as humans use them to build our own homes and so do most birds. This osprey was taking advantage of this large ponderosa snag on the edge of the lake.

Nice evening light these days. I am happy that we are getting into spring, however, you wouldn't know looking at the mountains today. Fresh snow has graced the high country once again. I will gladly take all we get this time of year, it won't be long until I am complaining about the heat.

Spring is coming soon. Morning frosts are still common, the last bit of winter that seems to be detectable in the lowlands. The lack of snow this winter has many folks speculating on what the summer weather may hold, particularly for fire season, but the biggest determination of that will be our rains through July and August. If we get those, I think we may skate by alright. But for now, I will enjoy the pleasant weather while it lasts.

Light through the lichen. We didn't end up with much snow this year, so having the opportunity to shoot the forest in what is probably a fresh foot or more of snow with some backlight conditions was satisfying. This was probably the my favorite image from my latest YouTube video. Overall it was a beautiful day and the exact right kind to get out with the camera. Spring is certainly drawing near.
