Ballard Creations hit 100 followers on Facebook today. I am very grateful for each and every one of you who are following along this early in the journey.
I want to share how I designed the Ballard Creations logo.
When Bobby Chalmers asked me to start shooting photographs for Race Pro Weekly on December 31st, 2016 - he used this iconic “BC” logo on all of his images. 14 year old me thought this was the coolest logo on the internet. It had a really unique style that Bobby came up with.
For folks who have known me since I was a child in the orange bleachers of Lebanon Valley Speedway, my first favorite race car driver was JC Flach. JC carried this one of a kind, “sky blue” gradient within his iconic 77, with a yellow highlight surrounding the border. This color combo was a pillar of every decision I made in my art projects growing up. It really just stands out in my opinion.
I had a vision of combining and honoring the legacy of two of the most impactful humans that brought me into the sport of auto racing to start this new chapter of my career. The name change, and logo design came to me so easy, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out, and where it is going.
I mentioned on my personal page how I felt very moved to rebrand and launch Ballard Creations. A lot of big decisions I make are very thought out - probably too thought out, which causes hesitation and “what-ifs” - but not this one.
For those who may not know, my whole photography career, I wanted to make it to NASCAR. More than anything, being a NASCAR credentialed photographer was my ultimate goal. Bobby knew this when he brought me onto RPW. Fast forward 8 years to June 2025, I knew Bobby was sick, but I didn’t know the severity. He just helped me apply for my first NASCAR credential - the NASCAR truck series race at Lime Rock Park. One of the last texts I sent him was on July 7th, 2025. I had just published my first ever NASCAR album. The texts reads:
“Thank you again for the opportunity to be able to achieve my dreams. You've done so much for me since I was literally a child. I can't thank you enough”
10 days later, he passed away.
I owe my creative career to Bobby Chalmers. I felt so moved to launch this brand and take off on my next dream, and I know for a fact that is because of Bobby.
Thank you to the first 100 friends and family who clicked follow on this page. It really means more to me than I can express, and I will never forget the names of the first 100.
