A beautiful Chestnut-Breasted Coronet from Ecuador. I took this picture during my first outing to Ecuador with FMU and it’s certainly one of my favorites! I’d give anything to make it back there and explore with my new macro photography skills and 600mm telephoto lens.

During turtle egg laying season we get in many turtles at and the unfortunate reality is that some do not make it. However, since many are crossing roads to find suitable places to lay eggs we always check to see if the females are pregnant. If they are, we salvage the eggs and incubate them ourselves so that the female’s missions are still fulfilled. Today we got to see these efforts fruit as so many baby turtles hatched here at the center ❤️ Here are a couple of the cute babies, can you guess what species they are?
