Old favorite, shot on Fuji Velvia or Chrome, don’t remember, around 2001 offshore Singer Island, FL. One of the first times I used a fisheye lens. This image, of a Hawksbill Turtle, was widely published back in the day and on the cover of my first book Fishy Friends, which hopefully will be reprinted in a landscape format this summer. Some images get dated. This one never did. Still wows.

Last week during a presentation in Texas, a little kid asked me about the Blue Ring Octopus, and I didn’t have it in my program. So here you go buddy, a Blue Ring all fired up. I photographed this beauty in South Australia near the legendary Edithburgh pier many years ago. Enjoy! Copyright Michael Patrick O'Neill

Cold temps sealed the fate of thousands of Iguanas in South Florida. The invasive lizards cannot tolerate the weather we experienced and literally dropped like flies. Those turned to local FWC offices will be euthanized, turned into leather goods, and even food. A lucky few will be sold as pets outside of Florida. Photos from this morning at the Tequesta FWC field office.

I got my manatee fix earlier this week in a north Florida spring spending some quality time with this Manatee Mom & youngster.

Conditions were ideal; the spring was in great shape, empty, and the overcast sky made the underwater lighting perfect, soft and rich.

If you love these adorable creatures as much as I do, I recommend my new book, Let's Explore Manatees, which makes a great Christmas & Holiday gift.

Great day at Bailey Elementary in Hillsborough County, FL presenting to approximately 200 kids and showing them the wonders of the oceans. Each left with their own copy of the soft cover edition of Let's Explore Sharks. I have four more schools in the area this week and will donate more than 1,000 books to these Title 1 students.

With Into the Blue, our aim is to promote reading, writing, science and marine conservation in economically challenged schools and communities. ❤️😄❤️

Between the foundation and my photography business, I have close to 200 presentations scheduled through the end of May 2026. Bring it on!

HUGE THANKS TO ALL OUR DONORS, especially the Lewis E. and Jean C. Neill Fund of the DuPage Foundation for making this effort possible!

Fun photos from today. More to follow.
