Eupetomena macroura (Swallow-tailed hummingbird)

Trecognized for its long forked tail and brilliant iridescent plumage, is an uncommon species in Peru.
In Cusco, it is mainly found in the Quillabamba region, between 800 and 1600 meters above sea level, where it survives in small patches of tropical forest rich in vegetation and flowers.
It can be observed in parks, gardens, dry forests, and open areas, feeding on flower nectar that provides the energy needed for its fast and tireless flight.

The Chocó biogeographic region is one of the richest ecosystems in the world for bird diversity. Its humid forests and varied ecological zones are home to unique and colorful species, many of them endemic, such as toucans, hummingbirds, tanagers, and other tropical birds.
Thanks to this extraordinary biodiversity, the Chocó has become an ideal destination for bird photography. Its natural landscapes, abundance of species, and opportunities to observe birds at different elevations provide excellent conditions for photographers and nature enthusiasts, especially in reserves and ecological trails along the Pacific coast and nearby Andean regions.
