Back in May I embarked on a journey of firsts: My first artist residency, the first time being featured in a documentary and the first chance, in my 39 years on this earth, to be given an opportunity to share my story/lived experience as a neurodivergent Black woman living with cerebral palsy, inspire and engage youth, as well as advocate and represent for the BIPOC disabled community in an educational setting.
I met so many amazing people on this journey, and made life-long friends; from the fellow wingspan artists, the amazing teachers engaging youth across in Canada, and the Wingspan team members who were pivotal in making the Wingspan in Schools program possible.
Tonight is the UBC premiere of this documentary, Wings Rising and, although unfortunately the Toronto Artist, teachers and students couldn't be there to represent in person, please know we are rooting for you in the virtual audience!
Another way I wanted to represent in the virtual space is with a little glimpse into the Wingspan Toronto AiR experience!
I really wish I had found out about this event with enough time to properly promote and share with friends, family, and community, especially those in BC, but better late than never as they say 🤷🏿♀️😅
Thank you to all involved for an unforgettable experience.
