প্রফেসর আব্দুর রাজ্জাক তাঁর বইয়ের চৌম্বক অধ্যায় "The Mind Of The Educated Middle Class In India" তে শুরুতেই যে লাইনটি লিখছেন তা হলো: "It is an admitted fact that most political movements in India have been initiated by the educated middle class. The records of the movements are the records of what it thought, what it said, and what it did."
অর্থাৎ, " এ এক স্বীকৃত সত্য যে, ভারতের অধিকাংশ রাজনৈতিক আন্দোলনের সূচনা হয়েছে শিক্ষিত মধ্যবিত্তের হাত ধরে। তাদের ভাবনাচিন্তা, কথাবার্তা এবং কর্মকাণ্ডের নথিপত্রই আন্দোলনের নথিপত্র হিসাবে বিদ্যমান আছে।"
এর তিন লাইন নিচে গিয়ে বলেন, "if we try to understand the nature of the political movements, we must examine the true relations of the middle class with the foreign government and also the substance of education the class was receiving."
অর্থাৎ, "আমরা যদি রাজনৈতিক আন্দোলনগুলোর প্রকৃতি বুঝতে চাই, তাহলে মধ্যবিত্তের সাথে ভিনদেশি সরকারের সম্পর্ক প্রকৃতপক্ষে কেমন ছিল, আর এ শ্রেণিটি কোন ধরনের শিক্ষায় শিক্ষিত হচ্ছিল, তার বিচার-বিশ্লেষণ আবশ্যক।"
কেননা, কেবল এ শিক্ষার দৌলতেই মধ্যবিত্ত 'শিক্ষিত মধ্যবিত্ত' হয়ে উঠতে পেরেছিল, এবং এ শিক্ষার দোহাই দিয়েই নিজেদের নেতৃত্বের দাবি জায়েজ করেছিল।
