Don’t sleep on summer family photos!

People often wait for fall when Christmas card pictures are on their mind. But summer is magical! Vibrant colors. Warm evenings. You can splash in the river and snuggle among the wildflowers.

Not to mention… fall gets crazy with back to school schedules, sports, activities, holidays sneak up on you and before you know it you are cross eyed with stress trying to squeeze in all the “to-dos” (you know I’m right!)

It’s never JUST a photo.

What’s the first thing people grab in the face of disaster?? It’s always the photo albums. The memories. The history. The moments they can’t live again.

And it’s more than remembering the way your life looked. It’s remembering how it FELT! Being transported to a moment in time. Remembering the smell of your newborn. The weight of them napping on you. The giggle of your toddler. The bear hug squeeze of your elementary aged kiddo. The cool vibes of your adolescent. The proud smiles of adoring grandparents.

Love for one another makes this life so beautiful.

We all know Colorado desperately needs this rain. This season has been soooo dry. And while a rainy forecast on your photo session day might feel less than ideal, it just might create your favorite memories.

Giddy puddle jumping
Wind tossed hair
Raindrops sparkling in the air
Kids being fully, joyfully themselves
(That’s the real good stuff!!)

When we let go of perfection, we allow the real beauty of real life to shine through. Because amazing photos are never really about flawless weather or golden hour skies.

It’s about playing with your babies instead of posing every second. It’s creating memories that feel like your real life, beautifully preserved.

Some of the most meaningful images come from leaning into an “imperfect” moment instead of waiting for conditions to be just right.

So if the clouds roll in for your session?
Maybe that’s not the universe ruining your plans.
Maybe it’s actually handing you a little bit of extra magic.

Just like that the heavy storm shifted to a light drizzle and we made memories with a rainbow.

I was geared up for a very different session tonight. When we made the call to reschedule the senior grad shoot I had planned for, I grabbed my kids and we made images in the sprinkling rain. I had creativity bubbling inside me that needed an outlet. And I was so grateful that my kiddos were game to come along, dance in the rain and make some art with me.

Preston has been super into writing and illustrating short stories lately. And as I gently prompted some of their play and locations, we had lovely conversations about the joy that comes with making things and being creative: From writing to drawing to photography. I loved connecting with him over our individual passions.

The forecast for the next several days shows (much needed!) rain in our area. I’d love to keep making art! I’ll be emailing and posting a limited Rainy Day special for this week - so keep your eyes open - and come play in the rain with me! 🥳

Recently, I tried something new.

I submitted my work for consideration in a quarterly published photography magazine. Taking the step to review my work and select images that I felt aligned with the theme of the upcoming issue was a humbling and nerve wracking exercise. I doubted that any of my images were good enough. Or the right fit. I battled imposter syndrome and thoughts of futility.

But the theme of Rest and Renewal called to me. It lingered in my mind and tugged at my heart.

The invitation to “share my perspective on the quiet work of slowing down - of stepping back, refining attention and making space for growth” was just that. An important invitation to grow. To step back. To try. To be quietly seen. To put myself out there regardless of the result.

These are the images I submitted. And I am proud of each one of them! I am proud of what they represent in the evolving growth of my work. The emotions they evoke. And the slow moments they immortalize.

I am honored and proud to be featured in ! Thank you so much for allowing me the opportunity to share your pages alongside so many incredible artists. Thank you, thank you!!
