The West is full of contrasts.
A radar dish listening to the sky while a grain elevator stands quietly on the Plains. A pumpjack pulling oil from the ground while waves roll onto the Pacific coast. A prison tower watching over the desert while a small church sits miles from anywhere.
At first glance, these places seem to have little in common.
But after enough miles, they begin to feel connected.
They’re all part of a landscape shaped by people who built lives in places where the distances are long, the weather is unforgiving, and things were often made to last - people who built, repaired, farmed, drilled, hauled, raised families, and stayed.
One thing I keep noticing while traveling through the West is how many different worlds exist side by side.
Different places. Different purposes. Different stories.
Yet somehow, they all feel like they belong to the same West.
