European architecture, Antonio Lasiac designed and executed the intricate
Assicurazioni Generali building with passion.
It was known for being the official
headquarters for the Italian insurance company.
The building is distinguished by it's intricately designed balconies, arched windows, the extensive use of wood, and the two-story mashrabiya. The company's name is incorporated in both Italian and
Arabic using gold and green mosaics, it's currently home to several street-level shops, residential units, and offices on the upper floors.

Cinema Radio is the epitome of Downtown's cosmopolitan past and present.

in the late 1980s, it was split into two large halls: Radio Cinema and Theatre.

Cinema Radio’s halls premiered some of Egypt’s most celebrated and acclaimed films, was the stage to none other than soulful Egyptian queen herself Umm Kulthum and served as the backdrop to some landmark boutiques, such as the Egyptian actress Samira Aḥmad’s shop “Gelgela”(named after daughter Galīla’s nickname), the Egyptian Company and Bisco Misr.
