Cotton‑Candy Sunset Over the Pier

I was out on the eastern shore of the bay with my wife recently, wandering through a sunflower field and taking photos. After we left, I found a small nearby park and we settled in to watch the day wind down together. We couldn’t see the sun itself from where we were, but the sky still put on a show. Once it slipped below the horizon, the clouds over the bay bloomed with pink and magenta, lighting up the whole view in soft evening color. The moon in the top left corner added a nice touch to the composition.

Midnight Moss and Cosmic Dust

I captured another recent Milky Way rising over a small moss‑draped tree along the coastal flats and lined it up so it looked like the galaxy was lifting right out of the top of the branches, with the distant glow of a nearby city resting low on the horizon. Thankfully the light did not wash out the Milky Way’s beauty. Standing there in the stillness, with only the quiet hum of the night and the stars drifting overhead, the whole scene felt quietly peaceful, a gentle kind of calm that makes you stay beneath the stars a little longer, letting the night breathe around you.

I finally caught a rainbow framed against the General W.K. Wilson Jr. (Dolly Parton) Bridge on a recent evening as rainshowers drifted through. I’d hoped for a full arc, but this partial rainbow still felt like a gift. Captured from the drone, it framed the bridge in a way I’ve been chasing for a long time.

A recent morning in Bayou La Batre found me chasing rainbows and reflections along the water. Just before the rain showers pushed onshore, I wandered into this familiar spot I’ve photographed many times. The white puffy clouds drifted overhead, and the way they reflected across the still water with the colorful boats gave the whole scene a soft, glowing calm.

I heard about a sunflower field in Summerdale and drove over to photograph it at sunset. As the sun slipped below the horizon, the sky opened up with color and washed the field in warm light. Standing there in the fading glow, the warmth of the day lingered in the air and settled over the sunflowers like a soft, gentle hush.

On a recent morning before work, the sky was glowing with beautiful light and lots of Altocumulus clouds, so I headed down to a nearby boat launch to see what the day might offer. The conditions were perfect with not a hint of wind, and the sky lay mirrored across the still water. The first photo comes from the pier, and the second from higher up with the drone, catching that quiet reflection from above. It’s moments like these that make the early hours feel worth every step.
