.When your wedding becomes more about props than people, staged moments that you saw on Pinterest or Instagram vs. real authentic, “living in the now” life - when it becomes more about how you look than what you experience and who you’re experiencing it with - it’s time to take a step back. Your wedding day is a great day in your life, but it it’s not the greatest day of your life. You have so much more life to live and you’ll have so many more great days that if you’re peaking at your wedding day, if that’s your vision for yourself, you’ll be disappointed.

If I’ve learned anything in my 6 years of doing this it’s that the humans who understand that their wedding day is not the culmination of their life’s achievements, it doesn’t define them or their relationship, those are the couples who love their wedding days. Who can relax and enjoy a drink and not fret about details. Those are the couples who make choices that best reflect how they want to experience the day. If your wedding day has passed and you struggled with what I’m talking about, you are not alone either. You have so much wisdom to share now with your friends and family who are planning their wedding.

Here’s some choices some of my couples have made when they haven’t felt the pressure to perform.

1. No wedding party
2. Getting ready together
3. Backyard weddings (not because of Covid, but because they wanted to)
4. Taking dad’s old mustang for a drive in memory of him
5. Limiting their guest list to close friends and family
6. No special dances
7. Giving their first dance to their parents who never got one due to deployment.
8. Skipping getting ready coverage and focusing more on the reception.

There’s lots more examples but this is all I have time for now.

Just be yourself when it comes to wedding planning, friends. Hire a planner who gets you, who is in your corner. Make a list of what you HONESTLY care about and make that happen on your wedding day. Don’t get wrapped up in what you see on social media. It’s all a lie and a big ol’ joy sucker. Your small or grand celebration is worthy of your joy. So don’t rob it by comparing or trying to fit yourself into a box.

Good morning friends, what a heavy week to be a human, and to see the suffering of other humans. We’ve been here before. In a state of shock as the world burns. We will most likely be here again after this current crisis passes but for now, we work together to bring an end to suffering and injustice.

This post is specifically for small business owners although applicable to anyone. What do you do when the world is on fire? How do you conduct business? How do you book new clients, and celebrate victories when people all over the world are suffering? How do you not lose your soul in your pursuit for success?

These are tough questions I’ve wrestled with the last several years as tragic, unjust wrongs have happened in the world around me and I’ve had to reckon with my part in it.

Here’s what I’ve become resolute about as a small business owner and human. I believe in good. I believe good will always win over evil. And I believe that each one of us can be a beacon of hope in our little communities. No movement toward good is too small. No act of kindness or compassion goes away void. It ALL works together to shine light into darkness and bring beauty from ashes. And as a human, with a small following of clients, friends, and colleagues, I have a duty to do my part to shine that light. I have a duty to uplift voices that need to be heard, to speak out for justice when something is wrong, to sit in silence and grieve with those who grieve, to give dignity to those suffering by recognizing what is happening and doing something about it.

I encourage you to think through these things with me. To practice empathy AND action. To truly believe that no action is too small. If we all did one small thing, huge change could happen. 100 little candles light up a whole room.

My door is always open, you are not alone friend. Keep going.

Hey friends, I’m really honored and excited to begin offering Personal & Business Coaching Sessions. I get asked about this a lot and I’ve always allowed imposter syndrome and feeling inferior dictate whether or not I’m allowed to share my insight with anyone. Well, not anymore.

I’m incredibly passionate about helping entrepreneurs and small business owners move to the next phase of their business. I can personally attest to how hard it is to overcome mindset issues, road blocks in your process and ironing out your brand voice. The struggle is a real and so hard and you don’t have to go it alone. A coaching session can provide clarity to your brand, your client experience, help blow the cobwebs away and bring renewed vision to your work.

There’s also a lot of personal work that goes into owning a business. We aren’t robots - we bring all the years of life into our business and how we run it (the good the bad and the ugly) and we have to do the personal work as well as the business work in order to grow a business.

I have lots more to say but I’ll leave it there for now. If you feel stuck in your business, or are wanting to build out a new offering, or are want to talk to someone who has been there, are needing a space to brainstorm ideas, a coaching session is for you.

I’m in your corner, rooting for you.

Check out my website under “coaching” to learn more and schedule a session or an exploration call.

One of my favorite parts of the wedding day are family photos. Not stuffy family photos but family photos with arms slung around each other, babies on hips and all your favorite people surrounding you. I'm excited to meet all your beautiful, crazy, opinionated, kind, grouchy, flamboyant, loud, quiet, conservative and liberal, large, and small families this year. It's a beautiful thing to be human and get to do life with you on your wedding day.
