Had a go at making an Oseberg Sea Chest…. In 1904, excavations began on a huge burial mound, 6m tall and 40m long, in Oseberg, Norway. Inside was one of the finest Viking finds ever; now called the Oseberg, a whole ship. Carbon dating showed it had been built in AD 820 and buried 14 years later. The Oseberg contained many artefacts including the Oseberg Sea Chest. Made of 6 planks of white oak with a complex iron lock. Speculation is it belonged to Queen Åsa, grandmother of Norway’s first king. Great fun to make one even though I’ve lost my fingerprints sanding, so my iPad doesn’t recognise me anymore 🍃😁🍂
