A Superb Lyrebird in the middle of displaying its expert mimicry. This bird stuck to the Dandenong Ranges classics, perfectly mimicking birds like the Laughing Kookaburra, Yellow-tailed Black-cockatoo, Grey Shrikethrush, Red Wattlebird, and of course, the Eastern Whipbird!

A Whistling Kite showing off its nictitating membrane, a thin, transparent third eyelid that moves horizontally across the eye to protect it while maintaining vision. This membrane shields the eye at high speeds. It also helps keep the eye moist, and is especially important when they catch prey, as it helps protect the eye from injury.

A Superb Fairywren taking a quick break from its usual quick movements. These are one of my favourite birds, and are my wife's favourite bird!
I still remember how happy I was when she first pointed one out to me by name. I guess she was listening to my many enthusiastic comments about the birds that we would see while out and about 🤣👌
