The Mothman.

This popular cryptid originated in 1955, with a report from a young couple in Western Virginia. They reported being chased by a large winged being. Over 100 more sightings were then reported in the following months.

In 1967, the creature was seen again above the Silver Bridge over the Ohio River, moments before it collapsed in a devastating incident. As a result, the creature is now seen as either an omen of disaster or a benevolent being warning people of impending doom.

Whether it is good or bad, the Moth Man has entered our minds and stories, local and international, and has influenced media on all levels.

I personally love the story and the myths behind this mysterious cryptid.

To celebrate our beautiful underdog, I went and found some interesting things that moths mean in different cultures.

Firstly and maybe most significant to me, moths are symbols of transformation. In Celtic beliefs, white moths are seen as souls, from the realm of the dead.

Chinese symbolism sees moths as a sign of good luck. Native American cultures believe moths are guides in the dream world. Christians also use the moth to symbolise the importance of spiritual wealth.

The colours of a moth also caru their own meaning. But that is a topic for another day.

Moths and butterflies. πŸ¦‹

We tend to think of them as not being equal. Seeing one as an elegant ballerina and the other as an irritating wanna be.

We swat and yell at the moth while we chase after it, and admire the butterfly. But when you sit and look at them, you see that both are stunning. They are similar, colourful, and beautifulβ€”both of them.

Yet how we treat them is so different.

We do this to each other as well, even though we all have beauty.

I love these. I just had to make another one. This one is tough, though. Let me know how many you find. πŸ‘€

Whenever I think of God, I imagine hands.

I have never seen his face or even really tried to.

When I eventually realised this, I also realised how special hands are to me. Hands are directly connected to a creator's hands, in my opinion, anyway.

God gave me my hands and my gift, and to me, it is so important that when I see Him, I see that part of Him He allowed me to have, art.

Lately, I find myself reflecting on AI. πŸ€”

Realistically, it has existed for a little over two decades, but we seem to have found ourselves in the middle of an AI boom. It has made many things easier and many things harder too.

During this time as a designer, I have also been asked many times if I am afraid of AI stealing my job. My answer has been and still is, "No". 🫀

If anything, I am afraid of something way worse.

Among many other problems, I have observed a notable decline in design quality. I have seen more and more mainstream and well-established businesses πŸ’Έ using AI flyers and poster designs to promote and advertise. The same look, font, and styles on social media and in stores.

Professionals are using Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude instead of research and critical thinking. Generated social media images and videos instead of real experiences and real moments.

I am not afraid for my job, I am afraid of what we as humanity are losing. πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ

Reality.
A real voice.
A real moment.
Experiences.

We need 'real ', but by the time we realise this, will we know what it is anymore? πŸ«ͺ

My husband and I went to Thailand for our honeymoon in 2024. We were looking forward to so much! We wanted to see all the sites, experience the culture, and eat new foods. πŸ₯³

But of all the food we thought we would eat, the mangos really stuck with us. πŸ₯

Thailand was hotter, more humid, and more intense than we had ever experienced. 🫠

Before our first day was halfway done, we knew we needed something cold. Then we saw it, ice.🧊 Every few stalls or stores had fresh ice fruit smoothies.

Naturally, I picked mango πŸ₯ and hubby took banana 🍌. Two mangos and ice, nothing else, and it was perfect. It was smooth and sweeter than any mango I have ever eaten. 🍹

Hubby also took mango for the rest of the trip, and we still dream of those mangos.

When I was young, I used to stay at my grandmother's house during the day and whenever I was sick. Whenever this happened, she and her cleaning lady (my Xhosa mom) would make me a small fruit salad.πŸ₯πŸπŸπŸ“

They used to preach that I would stay sick if I didn't eat my fruits.

Nothing made me feel better than that fruit salad, and when I get sick now, I still only want to eat fruit. πŸ₯°

Mangos are like pure gold to me. They are my absolute favorite fruit.

I get so excited every year when mango season rolls around. I keep an eye on the store shelves and the moment I see them, I buy a box.

Do you guys have a favorite fruit you look forward to?

Grinidellas has always had a very special place in my heart. πŸ₯°

My mom and I used to eat bags full of them in the summer while watching 80s music videos. We would cut them in half and eat the insides with teaspoons. πŸ’ƒ

I recently also learned that Grinidellas got their name (passion fruit) from religious connections. They were named to illustrate the passion of Jesus Christ, which makes them only more special to me.

Grinidellas still give me that nostalgic feeling and I still eat them on summer days. πŸ₯°
