Why I honestly LOVE a pre-event (Read the captionđŸ€)

If a couple ever asks us to be there to capture the day before the wedding too, my heart literally skips a beat.
And yes, of course, part of it is because I love filming.

But it’s also because I know what it can mean for their story.

A pre-event adds SO many layers to your film.
On the wedding day itself, there’s only so much time to capture everything.

But a pre-event gives your story space to unfold.
Because more time together means more of your story for us to work with.

So when you watch your film, you’re not just watching the wedding day.

You’re already in the anticipation.
The hugs.
The excitement.
The moment people start arriving and seeing each other again.

We’ll often mic up our couples as they greet their guests. And you know what?
Some of the most incredible moments have come out of that.

You get to see friends and family reconnecting. Everyone asking how they’re feeling. Sharing in the excitement. Laughing. Hugging. Just being together.

And aside from adding so much richness to your film, there’s something else it does.

It introduces us to your guests before the wedding day.
They get a glimpse of what it’s like having us around.
And by the time the wedding arrives, we’re not strangers anymore.
We’ve already spent time with them.
Your family and friends know who we are.
They’re more comfortable around us.
And that comfort shows up in the footage.

Finally, and this is especially true if you’re having a wedding weekend or a destination wedding:

You’ve experienced the entire build-up which means the whole celebration feels more connected.

You’re not just watching the wedding day.
You’re part of the entire story.
And that’s what I love about a pre-event.
It gives your film more room to unfold.

More anticipation. More connection. More layers.

Which ultimately means a richer storyđŸ€

We honestly have THE BEST clients.đŸ€đŸ„č

If you’re still in between on whether you should invest in a wedding film, just scroll through these slides.

A wedding film is your only memory of how your day looked, felt and sounded like. Its the start of your story, and something to return to once all the hype has faded.

Most of all, it holds the people you love dearly, and its a keepsake to show the ones you will love in future.

Your future self, in 20 years will thank youđŸ€đŸ„č

The algorithm has just shown me another wedding trend.

Which led me to the question:

Are we filming people, or are we filming trends?

This is part two of a series where I share my thoughts on wedding filmmaking.

Trends are fun. They are cool. They add a little bit of freshness. This is what I'm doing is technically a trend.

But trends are not always timeless.

So whenever a couple asks me to include something that's cool or trendy at the time, here's a simple framework that I use to filter it through.

Firstly, does it fit the couple?

Does it fit their personalities? Is this who they are?

Let's take Super 8 footage, for example.

Some couples are drawn to the nostalgic, almost old-school film feeling of it. But other couples feel that it's not their vibe, and that's completely fine.

Just because something is trendy and works well for others doesn't mean it's right for every story.

The second thing that I'm looking at is: in two, three years, how is this trend going to hold up?

Is it going to enhance the story? Is it going to support the story and make it better?

If the answer is yes, then we go ahead.

But if it's something that just came up on TikTok, then we'd rather pass.

Because when you watch your wedding film, I don't want you to say, "This feels so 2026."

If you watch your wedding film, I want you to say, "This feels exactly like us."

Then we know we've done a good job.

I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments section, and follow along for the rest of the series.

I’ve been thinking about why we feel more emotionally connected to some wedding films than others.

I think it has a lot less to do with perfection, and everything to do with honesty.

This is part 1 of a series where I share my thoughts on wedding filmmaking.

For me, the stuff that hits home is the real stuff.

It’s a couple looking at each other during the ceremony, and you just know how much this moment means to them.

The unfiltered chats where they’re so excited to see each other and just reflect a bit about what just happened.

It’s the guy on the dance floor rocking it out with his moonboot, still having a great time.

It’s those moments where you just feel, “Oh my word, I feel you. I see you.”

We connect with that.

Why?

Because it’s honest and it’s truthful.

And here’s the thing about honesty: it’s rarely polished, right?

So sometimes the camera shakes a bit during that moment.

Sometimes we don’t have a clear shot.

But I’d rather include the moment, because the moment matters more than the shot being technically perfect.

And that’s why I think some wedding films hit deeper than others.

Follow for the rest of the series.đŸ€

We actually hear this so often.

So many couples almost think the couple shoot is going to take away from the wedding
But it often ends up being one of the most meaningful parts of the day.

Yes the couple shoot is a space where we we get beautiful shots of you.. BUT.. it’s also a moment to pause and just step away from the rush.

It’s a space to just be together, have fun with each other, and take it all in

Something else to note on this, is that this really only happens when there’s space in the timeline. When you allow enough time on your day for your photographer and videographer, these moments get to happen naturally.

Tight timelines sadly don’t help connection.. they just don’t. You end up feeling rushed, moving from point A to B.

So if connection with your person is important to you on the day, and you want that space to actually take it all in, make sure you’re allowing enough time in your timeline for it đŸ€

To all the new faces,

This is me! Im Anneke, videographer, and owner of New Vine Media

Some of you know me very well, and others not. You may know what I do, but this is also who I am.

Here you go:

2. I think I was always meant to tell stories in some way. Long before wedding timelines, there was this pull toward finding out what is the story behind the person in front of me. I remember how much I loved writing story essays in school, often helping my friends come up with their stories too.. Or filming my dad as he shared what it was like growing up in his hometown. Stories and the richness of people have always fascinated me.

3. I have no shame in admitting that I know all every lyric of every song of Mamma Mia (1&2) song. And if i dont know what to watch.. You know what’ll be the go-to😅
4. If I could have deep chats the entire day, I would. But we cannot, so now I do the second best thing which is telling stories.
5. The desire to go deeper is what led me to start New Vine. I always wanted to tell wedding stories that are not just fleeting, but carry weight. It will always be my desire to tell stories that stay with you. That capture not just what your wedding looked like, but what it meant to you.
6. Im married to Wiehan who of course I believe is the best husband in the word. We also often shoot many of the stories we film together
7. We have a border collie called Mila who is wild and wonderful and has way too much energy.
8. when I’m not filming or editing, you’ll probably find us outside. I love hiking and being in Gods creation..
9. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, therefore I will hope in him.” If anything I love sharing the reason for the hope I have within me. There is only one Name, above every other Name, who is my joy and He is so so faithful.

You are so welcome here. I cannot wait to share more stories with you!
