Last October, we came face to face with some of Africa's rarest elephants.

We went on safari in Damaraland, Namibia. But not to sit in a vehicle behind glass. We were allowed to get out! We walked the dry riverbed of the Huab River, and came face to face with one of the rarest wildlife encounters on earth: the desert-adapted elephants of northwest Namibia.

There are only around 150 of these elephants left. They live in one of the driest landscapes on the planet, roaming freely alongside the communities who have chosen to share their land with them.

In this video we explore what makes Damaraland so extraordinary, how Namibia's community conservancy model works, and why this might be the most meaningful safari experience we've ever had.

We never expected a chance encounter with a stranger to become one of the greatest highlights of our Namibia trip. After arriving at Spitzkoppe, ancient granite mountains rising from the Namibian desert, we met someone who had an unusual request. What followed was one of the most spontaneous and unforgettable experiences of our journey.
