Too often my posts are rushed — moments without context thrown into the instragram void before they’ve had time to settle. In the past poor editing and insufficient thought was only a reflection of my own haste, but lately I’ve realised it carries consequences beyond my profile.

Sharks have spent decades suffering under misunderstanding, fear and lazy storytelling. The ocean deserves better from me who claims to love it.

Maybe slowing down, thinking deeper and speaking more carefully is part of the responsibility that comes with being their advocate. We do not improve in isolation - progress is a team sport.

Knowledge breaks the chain of fear.

The moment I became aware and started breaking the chains of conditioning — all those inherited fears I had never stopped to question. Sharks sit right at the center of that. Decades of fear-mongering and cheap storytelling have painted them as villains… and it stuck.

But that narrative isn’t truth — it’s convenience.

As someone who feels most at home in the ocean, I see it differently. It’s on me to hack away at that story. One frame at a time. One dive at a time. Every calm, controlled encounter is proof that what we’ve been told isn’t the full picture.

Affinity is earned through decades of interactions. The cycle is real but we change the minds of others if there is enough will - and evidence.
