Namibia Apr/May 2026

What started as a casual “I’m doing Namibia solo next year, but you are welcome to join” quickly turned into a trip neither of us will ever forget.

Early last year we started talking about a bike trip to Namibia, but with the aim to go completely from the south to the north and back again. Some consideration of the sites we wanted to see and a 2-week timeline, we ended up with a 5000km loop starting at Noordoewer border post to Epupa Falls and back again. The main attractions were: Fish River Canyon, Brukkuros Crater, Hoba Meteorite, Ruacana Falls, Epupa Falls, Marienfluss, Kaokoland, Brandberg & Spitskoppe. The next step, linking all of these with as many non-main gravel and dirt tracks as possible. Yes, there were some longer days where we needed to hit the tar and yes, we tackled the infamous Van Zyl’s Pass and yes, it didn’t always go according to plan.

We stayed at some amazing placed, some were planned, others not so much. Camping all the way, meat every night and beer to keep the throat moist.

All of this made for one epic adventure.

Some honourable mentions of places we stayed and people who helped us out:
• Vioolsdrift Lodge for providing a safe place to park the car and trailer.
• Canyon Farm Yard for our first welcome in Namibia.
• Phillip for showing us inside of the new Nekartal Dam.
• Urban Camp for being an oasis in the middle of a city.
• Zuri Camp for the amazing accommodation and braai packs.
• Tjonkuvi Otjiruwo for chats, stories and help with arranging fuel for what laid ahead.
• Epupa Falls Campsite for the fuel and allowing us in the camp in the veggie patch whilst the camp was full. This, being our first unplanned overnight stop.
• Jakkals Adventure Tours for helping an injured biker in the middle of the dessert.
• Spitskoppe Rest Camp for keeping our beer cold and safe from other adventure bikers.
• Solitare Lodge for making a plan and allowing us camp in an open field and for the coldest beer we have ever had. The foam literally freezes.
• Wêreldend Camping for sharing their lamb chops and beer with us.
• Alte Kalkofen Lodge for going the extra mile to ensure our braai packs didn’t just consist of steak and wors, the roosterkoek and salad were a bonus.

Weskus but Solo - Jan 2026

Riding solo is becoming a new thing for me, and I really enjoy exploring on my own even though at times I feel that I wanted to share an particular experience or location with a friend. The freedom of solo adventuring and doing it all at my own pace greatly out-shadows that feeling, I wonder what the trend for 2026 will be...

Not much to be said, just a quick swing to the Tankwa Karoo and back via the Cederberg.

We started early Friday morning, meeting up at a filling station on the N7, from where we took the highway all the way to Citrusdal; but not before stopping at De Tol Farm Deli for a roosterkoek and some coffee. From Citrusdal we would start hitting the dirt over the Middelberg Pass on our way to Op Die Berg for some fuel as we would be passing another service station for some time. From here we headed to the Tankwa Padstal via Katbakkies Pass, stopping at a favorite hangout spot on the way. Leaving the padstal we took the longer alternative road to Tankwa Tented Camp via the Tankwa Karoo National Park , where we would spend the night.

The next day the plan was simple, head to Clanwailliam for some fuel, we took the shortcut via Jai Yen Yen (Uitspankraal) but not before stopping for a beer first at Kyle's place. Fueled up at Clanwilliam we headed our separate ways, heading back via the Cederberg seemed way more appealing to me, so I did. The plan, stop at Cederberg Oasis Backpackers for some lunch, their famous ribs always hits the spot.

That was it, back home, back to Cape Town.

This past weekend I did a solo ride, without the usual group, to Stanford and back. What a great change of pace wat it not, my own time, my own agenda at my own pace, the ingredients to blissful and peaceful ride indeed...

I did the old Houwhoek Pass from top to bottom (we usually do this in reverse, bottom to top), next up was 'Fall Down Hill' which turned out to be permanently blocked by the farmer and quickly became 'Fall Up Hill' as well, but not before playing in the sand a bit. From here it was simple, through the Overberg to Stanford, but I did make a detour via Tesselaarsdal. On the way back much of the same, but with the only noticeable difference being going via Highlands instead of Houwhoek.

All and all a great time on the bike, the Norden 901 is just the perfect riding partner.
