NIECES — PART 2
There is something so pure and beautiful about watching these young women grow up. I want them to see what I see, their strength, their beauty, their individuality and just how amazing they really are.
SUMMER-JANE
Summer-Jane turns 14 this year, quite a lot has changed since I last shared about her.
Summer still loves her dolls. Her dolls were her babies, each one carefully named and taken care of. We used to tease my mom that she already had her first set of “great grand” babies. 😂
These days, her dolls have to share space with her other interests. She follows quite a strict skincare and haircare routine, using products with natural ingredients or even mixing up her own. Like most teenagers, I'm sure she spends quite a bit of time in front of the mirror! 😂
She also has a real love for animals and a very caring heart. I love seeing that gentle side of her and the way she cares about the things and people she loves.
Her favourite singer is Olivia Rodrigo, whose music seems to capture that stage of life so well….when you're figuring out who you are, navigating friendships and emotions, when everything somehow feels a little bigger.
It's been lovely watching Summer grow from the little girl she was into the young woman she is becoming, while still seeing those little glimpses of the child who loved her dolls.
KARA
Kara, aka Kiki, turns 13 soon. She is my younger sister's daughter. She has two older brothers who absolutely dote on her, their little sister.
She is kind and gentle and softly spoken, but don't be fooled by that quiet nature, because she can cut you down to size with just a stare. 😂
Now, I may or may not be in trouble for that line. If you don't hear from me, send help. 🤫
Kiki works hard, too. Once she sets her mind to something, she is determined to achieve it. She made sure she had all the boxes ticked to get into her preferred high school….and she was accepted 🙌🏽. I love that quiet determination in her. She knows what she wants and is prepared to put in the work to achieve it.
She loves ballet and most forms of dance and is very good at it. It's lovely watching her pursue the things she loves with that same determination.
INDIA ROSE
India Rose is happy and doesn't let things phase her too much. She has a lovely ability to bounce back, which I think is such a wonderful quality to have.
She is kind and funny and loves animals, but India is also a serious foodie. This is the child who will ask “What's for dinner?” while she's still eating breakfast. She reminds me of someone I know... 🤐😅
Her favourite meal is “naachose”, as she calls them, and she's particularly happy when her dad isn't home for nachos night because that means more for her! 😂
She looks like her dad, and she could easily pass as my own child. In fact, when she was little, we took her to church with us. A visiting parishioner, whom I hadn't seen in ages, spotted me with India and his eyes were as big as saucers.
It took me a minute to understand the look.
Yep... a lot can happen in two years. Like my brother and his wife making me an aunt again. His reaction was basically, “Wow... I really thought there for a minute.” 😂
These three girls have grown and changed, but the things that make them who they are remain.
I am so proud of the young women they are becoming, and so grateful that I get to watch them grow. ❤️
