Imagine a quiet afternoon on a cloudy (but not cold) afternoon on a wine farm in Stellenbosch — vowing your life to the human you love most with you inner circle as witnesses.

This was Katharina & Jason's wedding day at Jordan Wine Farm. Just two beautiful people in love with their closest family promising a lifetime of love.

To say it was special would be an understatement!

Sometimes an elopement or intimate wedding can seem less significant because it's not the typical picture of a "dream wedding" — but these are the wedding days where it's really *just* about the love & covenant and not all the fancy extras. I love it!!

“Choose Joy” — sometimes that seems like an impossibility or just cheap advise from someone who doesn’t understand what you’re *really* going through.

I’m not one of those people who likes to just put on smile to try and trick my brain into thinking it’s actually happy. I think that’s BS — but I do think there is a way we can actually change our response to difficult circumstance or dark seasons so it doesn’t weigh us down as much.

“Be cheerful with joyous celebration in every season of life. Let your joy overflow! And let gentleness be seen in every relationship, for our Lord is ever near. Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life, then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will guard your heart and mind through Jesus Christ.”

What this piece of wisdom has taught me over the last few weeks is that God will give you HIS peace (that definitely goes beyond understanding) when you live a life surrendered to Him in prayer, and when you understand that He is in control, He will have the final say, His presence really IS the cure. And the best thing of all is that His peace will guard and protect your heart & mind.

I've been meditating a lot on this question this past week:
what is *really* MOST important to me at this stage & season of my life?

And maybe for you too there's a quick answer initially — but as I've sat with this for a while now I've stopped judging myself for my true answers, the things that are actually driving me each day, the areas where I actually spend the majority of my time, energy & resources and the things that actually suck life & love out of me but has somehow gained control over my heart & mind.

We need to stay humble enough and aware of our own ~stuff~ in such a way that we can recalibrate as soon as we realise something is off — instead of finding ourselves months into a direction we didn't intentionally choose.

Don't shy away from doing deep soul work my friend, especially when you feel like you're in a funk, you're a bit overwhelmed and stressed out or when you're deep in the trenches. It's so worth it to get some clarity on what's really important, so you can start to ignore what's not.

When you feel like giving up...STOP ✋ Fellow entrepreneur friends out there – read this ⤵️⁠

Every single one of us experiences feelings of discouragement, comparison, and burnout (despite what Instagram might make you think)...but those feelings, while valid, shouldn’t be allowed to control your life or make you give up on your passion or the dreams you have for your business!⁠
⁠
1️⃣ Start by reflecting on how far you’ve already come. Srsly, you're doing AMAZING!⁠
⁠
2️⃣ Spend some time pouring into yourself. Take a break from editing for an activity or hobby that really energises you. For me, it's painting or drawing 😍⁠
⁠
3️⃣ Spend time with your business besties or with other entrepreneurs you look up to and receive their encouragement for YOU! (or DM me for a coffee!) ⁠
⁠
4️⃣ Find *new* podcasts, blogs, and accounts to follow. Sometimes it's better to unfollow people who are technically your competitors so that you can open yourself up to creativity and thinking outside of your industry or your specific service or product OR find new educational content to invest in your growth! ⁠
⁠
5️⃣ Spend some time remembering WHY you started your business in the first place. What drove you to offer your service in the unique way that you do — why is it important to you. Rekindle a little bit of that 'first love'. ⁠

Reminder: Have FUN at your wedding 😄⁠

Alright, alright. I know… it sounds obvious. I mean, OF COURSE, you have fun at your wedding.⁠
⁠
But more often than not, people become so stressed out about every detail or the way they look that they forget just relax on their Big Day. 😅⁠
⁠
Here’s the thing. I’m speaking from experience. I've seen it countless times... brides that constantly want to look in a mirror to make sure their hair is perfect "for the photos", or freaking out that the florist didn't do this or that specific thing, or just stressing the whole day that things won't go according to plan.⁠
⁠
But at the end of the day, you want to look back and think, "WOW, I had THE BEST TIME.” ⁠
⁠
No one can do that for you except YOU, but having a good wedding vendor team and a supportive circle of loved ones will go a long freaking way. ⁠
⁠
Remember that your guests will most likely only remember how they FELT. Not whether the welcome sign was perfectly centered ;). And you should be able to enjoy every part of the fun too 🤗🤗⁠

I love creating quiet moments during any couple shoot where the couple can just take a breath and use their senses to really take in the moment. ⁠
⁠
The reason I love this image so much is because of the framing of their faces. Their silhouettes complement each other in a very natural way and the light that's hitting Chantelle's face and collarbones brings so much richness to the image. ⁠
⁠
The best part of all is that as with 99% of all couples out there they told me beforehand how they aren't good with photos, they're awkward, etc. ⁠
⁠
But that's the beauty — no one has to be an extrovert, or have an outgoing smiley personality to look amazing in photos. It's all about capturing who you are and your love for each other. ⁠
⁠
Once you realise that, the camera disappears and it's just the two of you.

One of the last warm summer nights before the winter set in... ⁠

Mary-Anne & Stef's wedding countdown is on with less than 6 months to go! Their wedding weekend is definitely going to be one for the books 😆⁠

Their engagement shoot was also almost ruined by crazy unpredictable Cape Town wind, but with a quick location shuffle we ended up on a beautifully quiet strip of beach with the most glorious light. ⁠
⁠
I treasure clients that basically feel like best friends from the moment you meet — there's instant trust and I always feel there's space for me to be creative and capture their story the way I see it. ⁠
⁠
Saying that each client's story and photos are treated equally in terms of quality — lol, we can't be friends with everyone! — but as long as there is complete trust both ways the images will show a different kind of magic.

Sometimes the most unlikely of circumstances can lead to the most favourable results 🧡 HOW? ⤵️⁠

Cher & Grant planned their Cape Town engagement shoot with me months in advance for when they would come down from Joburg to visit their families. ⁠
⁠
Shoot date locked it, outfits planned, everything is set. What do we get — the windiest day in Cape Town I've probably ever experienced 😩⁠
⁠
Now most people would back out of this situation immediately and postpone... but we had no other option and these two stayed SO calm and positive throughout the somewhat extreme conditions ⁠
⁠
(like I almost blew off a cliff kind of extreme 🙈)⁠
⁠
The results speak for themselves though. ⁠
⁠
Two humans as madly in love as these two and you're bound to create magic. ⁠
⁠
