Through Their Own Eyes — Edition 6 is out! 📖

This month, The Village News features our latest publication in its Book Reviews section. Journalist Elaine Davie spotlights the project where 12–13-year-olds from underprivileged communities in Hermanus get cameras and go out to document their own world.

"It's not simply about taking pretty pictures — it's about looking at familiar things with new eyes and telling a story." — Wilco den Otter

This is how we end our streetwalk for this years assignment around streetphotography for project 2025 of Through Their Own Eyes.

I think that they had fun and that is why they are cheering instead of the fact that it's finished😂.

A big thank you to Given and Nivallo, who assisted us during the walk.

The Atlantic Rugby Club in Mount Pleasant, Hermanus plays a vital role in the community. It’s more than just a team — it offers young people a sense of belonging, discipline, and pride, while bringing the whole neighbourhood together.

Today, Saturday the 22nd of November the club competes in the finals of the Sanlam Boland Super 16, and the entire community stands behind them. So when we met one of the players on his way to training while we did our streetphotography walk for Through Their Own Eyes the kids had to show their support. Go Atlantics!

11.30am - Behind the scenes, Proactive Gym, Hermanus

A group of children from the Through Their Own Eyes Photography Club, Zwelihle, accompanied me and participated in the in 2019.

This is a behind the scenes photo I took of the kids when photographing my lovely friend Michelle () who was putting on a show for us. The kids were in awe of Michelle. You just have to look at Patricia's face (look over Michelle's bicep!). Her face it says it all 😂
