African Wildlife Adventures

African Wildlife Adventures Come on safari with us as we explore some of Southern Africa's most beautiful national parks. We hope you enjoy what we have to share.

There will be cute and cuddly moments, some up-close encounters with Africa's deadliest predators, and hopefully, we'll be able to capture some NatGeo action footage.

This year was quite different from our previous trips since the area had gotten vast amounts of rain, meaning that the animals were more dispersed than usual. ๐ŸŒง

An epic trip, nonetheless!

Here's something a little different. Meet Ally, our adorable rescue dog! ๐Ÿพ

Ally is an Africanis, and was just a puppy when she was found on the side of the road in a community near where we live. She was in pretty rough shape. She was covered in fleas and ticks, and very tiny.

We received her when she was roughly six weeks old after some rehab, and getting her vaccinations. She was a scared little pup, but with a loving heart. Within days, she began coming out of her shell, and her playful nature began to shine. Chasing tennis balls, toilet paper rolls, and her rubber ring were her favourite activities.

Once she had the strength, we began taking her for walks in the wildlife estate where we live in South Africa. At first, she didn't know what to make of the giraffe, zebra, warthogs, wildebeest, impala, and guinea fowl. She must have thought they were all such strange looking animals. After a short time, she became very comfortable with them, but to this day, she always stops to check out the wildlife on our daily dog walks. Such a curious little puppy.

We hope you enjoyed this cute, and hopefully funny, compilation video of her life growing up from a rescue puppy into a very happy African bush dog.

As the sun was setting at the Okaukuejo waterhole in Etosha National Park in Namibia, a storm began to build in the distance. Dark clouds over the horizon, some lightning, and thunder rumbling over the landscape. What we thought was just going to be a normal African storm, which are powerful and incredible to witness, turned out to be the most epic display of nature that we've ever experienced.

Like a flash, the storm was racing straight at us. The sky darkened, and lightning was striking all around us. Before we knew it, the storm was right on top of us, and we had to grab our gear and make a run for it. We managed to find cover in a riverfront chalet, and when there was a small break in the storm, we ran and found shelter in the women's washroom by the campsite, which is where we were stuck for about an hour.

The power of nature was on full display that day. Never before have we seen such heavy rains, powerful thunder, and intense lightning strikes. It was both frightening and exhilarating at the same time.

Oddly enough, when the storm was right on top of the Okaukuejo waterhole, there was a black rhino feeding, which can be seen in the video. Somehow, that amazing creature didn't appear to be be bothered by the thunderstorm.

So snug ๐Ÿ˜„

These two warthogs have made the alcove outside our bedroom window their home at night for the last couple of weeks. They arrive at around 4:45PM every night, and leave shortly after sunrise each morning, providing us with a bit of a safari outside our window. We can hear them rubbing up against the walls throughout the night, so we thought it would be fun to set up a trail camera to see what they get up to. Somewhat of a time-lapse, we hope you enjoy this camera trap footage of these two cute warthogs.

We were driving along an area in the Kruger National Park where African Wild Dogs had made a kill, when these three popped out of the bush. Soon they started calling in an attempt to reunite with the rest of their pack. We spent a good 10 minutes with them, and after witnessing their stamina, it's no surprise that they get separated from each other.

There was also a very clever hyena following this group, hoping to share in their feast when they came across it. ๐Ÿ˜…

Does it get any cuter than this?๐Ÿ˜

After discovering that we had one huge warthog sleeping right outside our bedroom window at night, we set up a trail camera and were shocked to find that another family of warthogs were also interested in his spot.

It was quite amazing to see three of them trying to squeeze into such an incredibly small space. In the end, they rushed off, possibly due to the scent of the much larger and more dominant warthog from the previous night.

๐Ÿ— MEET OUR NEW "PET" WARTHOG ๐Ÿ—

Late one night we heard scraping noises against the wall outside our bedroom window. When we finally mustered the courage to see what was making the noise, we were relieved to see that it was just a huge warthog lying down for the night. We live on a wildlife estate bordering Kruger National Park in South Africa, so we're used to living amongst wild animals. Having them sleep right next to our bedroom window? Not so much. Since that first encounter, we've had the pleasure of seeing him come 'home' each night just before sunset, and start his day just after sunrise.

Note: We have not, and would never, feed any warthogs or any other wild animals.

Enjoy the video!

Those eyes! โค๏ธ

A cheetah mom and her four cubs drinking at sunrise in the Kgalagadi. Sadly, four days after I shot this video, one of the three small cubs was killed by a lioness further south while searching for springboks. Truly heartbreaking after spending so much time with them.

(This sighting was also special due to the fact that the sub-adult cub was still with the mother and her three newest cubs, which is quite rare.)
