★ IN BETWEEN ★
I used to work for an amazing charity that supports missing people and their families. It’s different to the death of a loved one, the term they use is ambiguous loss. Stuck somewhere in between.
I wrote this poem for the families and friends missing someone, without knowing where their loved ones are or even if they are alive.

I also wrote a second poem, from somewhere in between.

★ PURPLE STAR BEAUTY ★
This was my drawing of an Aster flower, the birth flower of September, drawn for a special friend back in 2019.
There are so many different types, and I love the variety.
They are also a symbol of love, patience, wisdom and beauty. Also associated with friendship and faith.
And in Greek, aster means “star” which is a reference to the star-like appearance of the flower.
I always love learning about the symbolism behind what I draw, and hold them in my mind as I draw.

Do you have a favourite flower? Drop it in the comments, and I’ll use it as inspiration for when my hands feel up to drawing again.

★ SHAMBLES ★
The last flight back to you.
You were holding on for us.
It was a relief to make it back to you, in the hospice. We had more time, even if it wasn’t a lot.
But God, I’m so grateful we had this time.
I know not everyone gets it.
We made the most of it, I promise we cherished every moment.
There was nothing left unsaid, in the end. But there is always more to say, when it comes to love.
Oh and how I loved you, Dad. How I love you still!
You’re in every minute of every day.
Every cell and atom.
Every dream and memory.
Always loving you, Dad.

★ SUZIE ★
When I was a kid, I had a lovely little cockatiel bird, called Suzie. I taught her to sing the blues and say, “Hello, pretty girl!”
She was such a sweet little soul.
Pets bring so much joy and I was so fortunate to grow up with a whole array of beautiful animals.

★ UNSETTLED ★
Those long, hot and sticky days of summer in the highveld, gasping for relief from above.
The storm breaks, but just as quickly as it arrives, it disappears - leaving everyone and everything still unsettled.

★ NO EXPECTATIONS ★
Learning to be playful without all these high, often unattainable, expectations and just let whatever happens, happen. I even tried using my left hand quite a bit and an earbud. And the best thing - I had fun.
A small artistic expression is better than none.
