Journey...

A journey of a 1000 casts started with 3hrs of sleep a fully loaded vehicle and a long road Northbound, set to be a trip of a lifetime into the wild with 3 epic mates!

For this adventure we have set sights on the African Tiger fish on the Groot Letaba River being guided in a concession that's open with the greater Kruger, with the main aim to land them on fly rigs in this Big 5 country.

Upon arrival, we were instantly met with the 1st signs that this would be no ordinary trip by any means - a tree pushed over the road in recent days by elephants - quickly brought us to the realisation that things can get dangerous

Out there, wild camping in the raw bush, though still in South Africa, it feels nothing short of being somewhere deep into Africa, during the day the sun trying its best to cook you alive on the sandy river banks, Elephants roaming about like naughty children, hippo giving you the death stare, crocodiles patrolling the waters and when nigh falls leopard, hyaena and buffalo lurk in the shadows.

Simple things now become about survival and having to have eyes in the back of your head, you listen for the cracking of leaves and sticks looking for signs of any danger at any time as we are in their territory...

Cast after cast the almost Jurassic tigers were illusive and showed us just how hard we were going to have to work for them, walking kilometers in the heat, casting till the hands and arms cannot anymore and then still some, stripping lines at light speed and losing flies even faster, this is where it get real!!

Between the hippo chase and hooks breaking with sheer Jurassic force, the code slowly started to crack, the colour pattern, the retrieve and long casts started falling into place, one by one the guys started getting it all dialed in, casting like professionals as if they were on some foreign tv show, sending flies into the zone with the hope to get that monster into the net!

6 days... Mates become family, raw human instinct comes alive and the world slows down, you start to feel, you measure time by the sun and stars, you start to see and collect memories that are etched into time itself. This is living Wild!

The big boy toys!

I absolutely love how my isuzu is coming along, thinking of all the stories that it has written and all those yet to come!

The path of life can be unpredictable and rough but more often than not the most beautiful places come from the most difficult journeys, take the leap and life might just surprise you!

This was on a little round trip around Gauteng in search of fishing spots and i just had to stop and make the most of this amazing afternoon light!

There’s something electric about rolling up to a new stretch of water with nothing but a fly rod, a full tank, and the open wild calling your name.

On this morning we loaded up the Isuzu, hit the backroads, and found ourselves on this quiet sandy bank — golden light, mirror-calm water, and fresh fish holding in the shadows. While scouting the perfect casting spots for some proper fly action, I couldn’t help but capture how beastly the Wildog Accessories bumper looks guarding the front of the rig.
