My 5 hard truths about content!

Keep creating. You may stumble, but you will not fall. Don’t get discouraged! Just show up and be consistent. Don’t doubt yourself. Don’t compare yourself to other accounts. This is your journey, this is your brand, and this is your purpose.

Let that sink in. You can not lose the essence of what makes you you. The fundamental part of your being is immutable and can not be lost, regardless of external circumstances, recognition, validation, or experiences. The creativity, the light, and the core of your being are woven into your soul.

You don’t have to chase it. You don’t have to prove it. You don't have to doubt it. You are it.

So on the days when doubt creeps in, when inspiration feels light-years away, and when your shoulders are tired of carrying the burden of the world - remember:
The 𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒄 cannot 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆 you when it 𝒊𝒔 you. 💫

Perfection is the enemy of my progress.

I often struggle to plan or predict my way to success and therefore find it challenging to think of ways to achieve my most important goals. It’s a daunting task, to say the least. But in today’s environment, where change is the only constant, it’s a task to start, regardless of our circumstances.

Here's a few steps I follow to help me get my mind on track:

The first step is this: "Just start". Take action now and learn as you go. Striving amid constant uncertainty actually works.

As humans, we often find ourselves waiting for the perfect moment to dive into new projects or make significant changes. But, the key to unlocking potential and progress is simpler than we think: "Just start".

- Changing the status quo: Starting is often the hardest part of any journey. It requires moving from a state of inaction to one of action. By starting, you commit to changing the status quo and overcoming the initial doubt, which makes all of the following steps easier.

- Learning through action: When you start, you learn. Every action provides feedback and lessons, regardless of the outcome. This real-world experience is invaluable and something you can not gain through contemplation alone.

- Building momentum: Starting sets things in motion. What begins as a small effort can quickly gain momentum, turning into progress and, eventually, success. The key is to maintain the momentum once you’ve taken that first step.

- Breaking down fear: The anticipation of starting can be scarier than the act itself. Once you take the plunge, you often find that the fear of beginning was the biggest hurdle.

- Seizing opportunities: In today’s fast-paced world, opportunities don’t wait. By starting right away, you open the door to possibilities that might not exist tomorrow.

If you're hesitating on the brink of a new project, career change, or personal goal, remember that there isn't a perfect time to begin. There is only now. Just start. You might be surprised by what you can achieve when you do.

Let's chat post engagement. Why do we attach our value to it?

I've really battled with the "likes syndrome." Posting something and continuously checking its progress.
I truly think we should stop letting likes define who we are or the value we bring to the table. Only because you didn’t get many likes does not mean it wasn’t good content!

I don't recall ordering a coffee takeaway and hitting a like button on the menu to emphasise my satisfaction.

Liking something is a feeling. To show you like something, you either watch it, read it, return to that place, and order something again. I guess liking something is more about putting your valuable time into it.

I like coffee, that's why I keep buying it.

I like good content, that's why I keep reading or watching it.

I like watching series, that's why I can binge watch for hours!

There's no like button, but I continue to do these things?

I personally despise this social platform metric 🤷🏻‍♀️

Likes don't define who you are, and neither does it define your skills! 🫶🏼

Design gives us a way to channel our energy into something meaningful, allowing us to have a tangible outcome at the end of our creative journey. So, let's continue to channel feel-good energy; engaging with the unknown, forming connections; and learning to accept diversity.

Every creative's voice is another voice in a larger orchestra that brings change. The first voice may not be the loudest, but it will certainly encourage others.

Stay inspired. Never stop creating.

Don't throw your own brand in the backseat! If there’s one thing that I’ve learned the hard way, it’s to not neglect your brand.

And before you say it, I know, I’m a designer so how did I possibly neglect my own brand? Building beautiful brands and preaching diligent brand maintenance is what I do. Right?

Well, you see, life happened and, of course, the heart of my every day was spent working down a long list of other seemingly important to do’s.

And while business seemed to be thriving the truth is that when I finally looked up from the keyboard about a month into the new year, everything felt a little off. My business was good - but I knew it wasn’t growing in the way it could be, or should be!

While I had been consumed with pouring my vision and creativity into other projects, I had unintentionally thrown my own brand in the backseat.

Have you ever tried reaching an unknown destination without Alexa? I was getting lost in daily to do's, and I honestly didn’t recognise that I was miles off my own route.

I had prioritised everything else over the bigger vision for my business.

Luckily, I recommitted to a fresh reset, and decided to practice what I preach.

The point is, building a great brand takes consistency. We need to be constantly checking in with our business goals and vision, and commit to consistently growing our brand.

Whether it’s investing in further education and training, updating our design and marketing campaigns, or even refreshing our brand feel, we need to invest in working on our business, just as much as working in our business.

Just Monnas.
Just creative.

Jacques Oosthuizen, Kommunikasie Bestuurder by Lords is gekies as een van Wineland Magazine se “30 under 30 – Movers & Shakers” in Suid-Afrika.

Hy laat jou hele wese bruis - soos vonkel in sjampanje.

Paarl is magies.

Haar is 'n wenner.

Gaan draai by haar vir lekke kos en LEKKE wyn!

Thank me later 😉🥂
