Fresh 48 with baby Chayya šŸŽ€

I love doing Fresh 48 sessions on discharge day. Not only are we capturing those beautiful first days while everything is still brand new, but it also means the room gets its one good tidy-up for photos. šŸ˜„

We get those sweet hospital details without the clutter, everyone is usually a little more settled, and there’s something so special about documenting the excitement of getting ready to go home.

A few quiet moments before they leave the hospital as a family of three. šŸ¤

First time birth for this mama after quite the pregnancy journey.šŸ¤

Unfortunately, the reality of spinal anaesthesia meant that mama wasn’t feeling well during the procedure and wasn’t able to have those first cuddles with her baby.

So daddy got them all instead. 🄹

And I got to make up for it with the most beautiful fresh 48 session, where mama finally got to soak up all those newborn cuddles for herself. I’ll be sharing more from that session soon. šŸ¤

sabieha thank you for allowing me to come alongside you and capture your story exactly as it unfolded. The beautiful, the unexpected, and everything in between. It’s such a privilege to witness these moments and preserve them for you to look back on one day. šŸ¤

One of the things I love most about first time births is getting to document the journey of becoming a dad.

Long before he held his baby in his arms, he was already being a dad. Waiting. Watching. Protecting. Trusting.
And then finally, meeting the little person who changed everything.

The world can wait. For now, it’s just a mother, her baby, and the quiet kind of love that changes everything.

People often ask me, ā€œIsn’t photographing births bloody? Traumatising? Too much?ā€

No.

It is one of the most holy, humbling, and wholesome things I have ever witnessed.

To stand quietly in a room where a mother finds a strength she never knew she had. To watch a family meet the little person they’ve loved for months. To hear that first cry, see those first tears, and witness love taking on a whole new form.

Birth changes everyone in the room.

And every single time, it changes something in me too.

What an incredible privilege it is to preserve these moments that are gone in the blink of an eye, yet remembered for a lifetime. šŸ¤

It’s been almost seven weeks since this beautiful birth, and I’m finally getting to share this gallery with you.

The past few weeks have been such a full season, and this story has patiently waited its turn. Going back through these images reminded me just how much I love preserving these moments.

Every birth is different. Every family has a story worth telling. And it’s a privilege I’ll never take for granted.

Welcome to the world, Leamay. 🩷

There are moments in birth that stay with you.

This is one of them.

The moment a baby emerges into the world after months of being known only by a heartbeat, a scan, and a mother’s intuition.

As a birth photographer and mother myself, it always feels extraordinary to witness.

A few weeks ago, I spent the afternoon with Irene and her boys.

There was laughter, running feet, big hugs, and plenty of chaos, exactly as it should be.

A beautiful season of waiting, loving, and growing together. 🌈

Little nursery moments, just minutes after birth šŸ¤

Some of the moms I photograph are under general anaesthesia, sometimes without a birth partner present by circumstance or choice. No one there to take photos in theatre or afterwards.

That’s why I love what I do. I get to preserve all the little details they would have otherwise missed.
