A trend of traveling to Malawi to obtain a Malawian passport for the purpose of entering other countries as Malawian citizens should be closely monitored.

Two Nigerian nationals and a Congolese man in Lilongwe have been arrested on charges of fraudulently obtaining national IDs to secure Malawian passports.

The suspects are expected to appear in court to face charges of forgery and false registration
