The 1958 Corvette. 'Corvette' is a very familiar name to us all, thanks to pictures and American movies. But have you actually seen a ’58 Corvette? Photos don't do it justice. You have to walk around it to appreciate its lines, colors, shape, and look. Don't confuse it with the Stingray, which came out in ’63.
The owner of this very rare car, Clinton van Vuuren, explained that the red color of the car is called Signet Red and represents the post office wax that the American Postal Service used in 1958. In 1957, Corvettes had two headlights, but in 1958 they switched to a four-headlight system. Clinton mentioned how much he loves the exhaust pipes that go through the rear bumper and the washboard vents on the bonnet, which really add to the classic look of the car.
The inside of the car reminds him of sitting in the cockpit of a fighter plane, which makes me, someone who has never sat in a fighter plane cockpit, really want to sit behind the wheel of this car. This car is 100% original and is kept in incredible condition. For some of us, the sound and performance of the car might be what we want to show off, but for Clinton, it's all about making people look and smile when they see the car, reminding them of better times.
Thank you to Clinton van Vuuren for showing off this beautiful car and for sharing some information about his love for it.
