When we drill “singles, doubles, and triples” until our legs burn, we are building muscle memory. The goal of a “Tech and Sweat” session is to make the technique so reflexive that when the music starts, your feet know what to do without your brain getting in the way.
Speed isn’t just about moving your feet faster, it’s about the geometry of the beat.
We start with the foundational pulse and then begin to layer: doubles, triples, and finally the quadruplets. The speed of the compás stays exactly the same, but the density of the sound changes. It’s a mental and physical puzzle that requires focus; if your mind wanders for a millisecond, the rhythm evaporates.
It’s almost like meditation but with discipline of subdivision and the grit to stay grounded while the energy builds. It’s not just noise, it’s subdivided intention.
Unlike a standard gym workout, our fitness is functional for the dance. We work on ankle stability, postural endurance, fast-twitch response and stamina.
