Chipangali man, 29, murders brother over late mother's bed

POLICE in Chipangali District in Eastern Province have arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly murdering his 56-year-old elder brother over a bed left by their late mother.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba tells TV Yatu's Thandizo Banda that the incident occurred on Thursday, 29 at around 19:00 hours in Chimuzimu Village, of Chief Mshawa.

Blessings Lungu, 29, and Iraki Banda, 56, had argued over property distribution since 28 May.

The dispute escalated on 29 May when Lungu allegedly stabbed Banda once on the left side of the chest before fleeing.

Villagers from Katentele apprehended Lungu and handed him to Mgubudu Police Post.

The deceased’s body is at Kasenga Mini Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem. The weapon has not been recovered.

Mweemba says a murder docket has been opened and investigations are ongoing.

Four arrested in Chisamba mob killing of 22-year-old man!

Police in Central Province have arrested four people in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Enock Samfukwe Kasengele, who died after being beaten by a mob in Chisamba District last week.

The incident occurred on 16th August, 2025 around 17:00hrs at Farm No. 5, Munyama Farms.

Deputy Commanding Officer Lemekani Chirwa confirmed that Samfukwe sustained serious injuries during the attack and later died at Kabwe Central Hospital on 17th August at 01:10hrs.

Mr Chirwa says a postmortem conducted today by Dr. Pavlo Lermontov revealed that the victim died from blunt force head injuries caused by a hard object.

Those arrested include 34-year-old Nigerian farmer Nathaniel Barthram believed to be a partner to Zambian farmer Maria Zaloumis, 23-year-old farm irrigator Gift Daka, 27-year-old irrigator Fortune Mutangeti, and 40-year-old farm manager Daniel Chilowa.

Mr Chirwa says the suspects are expected to appear in court soon.

The case has sparked reactions from human rights groups, with the Zambian Civil Liberties Union (ZCLU) calling for a transparent and credible investigation.

ZCLU Acting Deputy Executive Director Derrick Chekwe warned that failure by authorities to handle the case fairly could entrench mob justice and undermine the rule of law.
