The sun was beating down on the corrugated roof of the small building site, but the man in the red t-shirt and black beanie didn’t seem to notice. He was focused on the job at hand, his pink gloves caked with fresh mortar as he lifted the trowel to smooth it between the rough concrete blocks. The brick wall rose brick by brick under his steady hands, each layer a promise of something stronger to come. Beside him lay a coil of thin metal reinforcement, ready to be embedded in the next course for extra strength. With every swipe of the trowel, the man shaped not just stone but the outline of a structure that would soon shelter someone’s hopes and daily life, his work humming with the quiet pride of craftsmanship in the African heat.
