Infant dies after scooter crashes into classroom.

Minister of State for Mash West Provincial Affairs Ho Marian Chombo address the incident took place on 29 May 2026.

Two-month-old baby girl died on spot after a scooter lost brakes and crashed into a classroom block at a private school in Chikuti ward 8C, Hurungwe, In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the fatal accident occurred on Friday around noon.

According to the police, “an unregistered DSM scooter towing a trailer loaded with suspected gold ore reportedly reversed uncontrollably after experiencing brake failure before crashing into an unfinished classroom block where a teacher, learners and an infant were present."

Nhanga and Gota are traditional Zimbabwean educational practices revived by First Lady Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa to restore moral values and cultural norms among youth. Nhanga is a girls'-only space, and Gota is for boys, both focusing on traditional grooming, life skills, moral education, and gender-specific roles through guidance from elderly community members.

The purpose of Nhanga and Gota is to combat moral decadence, juvenile delinquency, and drug abuse while teaching respect and responsibility.
Nhanga (Girls): Often held in a traditional hut, girls are taught traditional chores, cooking, moral behavior, and respect for their bodies (such as preserving virginity).
Gota (Boys): Focused on teaching boys their societal roles, traditional skills (like making household utensils), and responsible manhood.
So this initiative brings together traditional leaders and youth nationwide, emphasizing cultural pride.
