Ever wondered why you can feel great in person… and then suddenly feel completely different the second a camera comes out? 📸
Here’s something we’ve learned after years behind the lens: looking good in photographs has far less to do with being “photogenic” than most people think.
Often, it comes down to the smallest details.
The angle of your body.
Where you place your weight.
The position of your chin.
What you do with your arms.
And, perhaps most importantly, whether you actually feel relaxed.
A few tiny adjustments can completely change the way you look — and feel — in front of the camera.
✨ Turn your body slightly instead of standing completely straight-on.
✨ Bring your chin gently forward and slightly down to create definition.
✨ Leave a little space between your arms and your body for cleaner lines.
✨ Instead of forcing a smile, relax, breathe, look away and come back to the camera naturally.
✨ Shift your weight onto one leg to create a softer, more relaxed posture.
But here’s the part we think matters most:
A great photographer shouldn’t just take a good photograph of you — they should know how to make you feel comfortable enough to look like yourself in it.
That’s why posing isn’t really about putting someone into a “perfect” position. It’s about small directions, movement and creating an environment where the person in front of the camera can relax.
So the next time someone says, “I’m just not photogenic,” remember: you probably don’t need to change anything about yourself.
You might just need better light, a better angle… and someone behind the camera who knows what to look for. 🤍
Save this for the next time a camera comes out, and send it to the friend who always says they hate having their photo taken.
