Novice Prince, Myanmar 2025

I watched as this young boy was dressed in the ceremonial splendor of a royal past to honor a sacred future. In this village every child becomes a prince for a day - a living tribute to the legend of Siddhartha before he became the Buddha.

To me it felt like a portrait of tradition, transformation, and a quiet golden tenderness.

This year’s theme is Give To Gain - the call to rise together through generosity, collaboration, and shared progress through Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls

I find this a timely reminder that equality must not just be promised but protected and lived.

As I share images today from my cultural photo‑storytelling work, I honour these girls and women representing communities around the world, and I’m reminded how universal strength looks.

Family, friends, and community are so important to wellbeing.

And the UAE is a truly special place, with Ras Al Khaimah especially close to my heart.

The warmth and welcome here, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan, is something I treasure.

Recently, I had the honor of visiting the Royal Palace for a Ramadan Majlis with HH Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, alongside fellow members of the RAK creative community.

At a time when the world feels so uncertain, I feel grateful for the safety, protection, and sense of community here in RAK, and the UAE.

Thank you for all your messages of concern at this challenging time. Wishing peace and safety to all, near and far.

I’m a photographer, and even I hesitate when it’s time to take a business-type photo of me.

I mention this because I really do understand that while corporate photos are considered critical communications tools, the process of landing the right snap isn’t always comfortable.

Well, I’ve integrated a few magical elements into ensuring that we have a great time together when we set out to create a seriously good series of what I call Empowering Portraits.

This is a portrait that portrays the very essence of you - your unique personality, your captivating charisma, and your voice to the world (most often communicated in silence through the smile in your eyes).

These are captures of you seen through the power of my lens. Captures that have the ability to display your power to your audiences.

GMR Studio Documents RAK’s Humanitarian Operation

At GMR Studio, we have documented a significant moment in Ras Al Khaimah’s humanitarian timeline. Acting under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the emirate has prepared and loaded the Saqr Humanitarian Ship with more than 4,000 tonnes of essential aid before its departure from RAK Port to Al Arish, Egypt, and onward to Gaza.

This assignment enabled us to create a clear photographic record of the operation, capturing the structure, movement and human effort behind an initiative designed to support communities facing severe hardship. The scenes at the port reflect Ras Al Khaimah’s expanding contribution to coordinated regional relief work.

Since 2015, GMR Studio’s work has focused on documenting the cultural and social landscape of Ras Al Khaimah. This includes Gillian’s First Prize at the Fine Arts Festival 2019 and our commissioned work for Ras Al Khaimah Ports, currently exhibited at the Arts Festival 2026.

The new photographs of the Gaza-bound aid vessel now join our wider archive, preserving Ras Al Khaimah’s role in humanitarian activity through documentary imagery.

It's the time of year when Ras Al Khaimah places a special spotlight on the Arts.

RAK Art 2026 opened to deserved, global acclaim last weekend.

In its 13th year, the theme is CIVILIZATIONS.

My Cultural Photo-storytelling came perfectly into play, acknowledged as a corporate commission by RAK Ports, Official Partner of this year’s Festival.

Twenty-four photographs, selected from the recent project, adorn the age-old walls of Bayt 8 in the Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village under the headline: PORTS AS CROSSROADS TO CIVILIZATION.

Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, afforded a great honor by visiting the RAK Ports exhibition.

His Highness expressed delight for the photographs which show the depth of humanness and scale at the heart of Ras Al Khaimah’s vast marine infrastructure.

I would like to thank Ras Al Khaimah Ports, and in particular CEO Roy Cummins, for the commission that led to this wonderful exhibition, as well as Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research and Direct Zone

GMR Studio Opens in Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village Souq.

It’s so exciting!

The official opening of The Souq at Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village takes place on November 7 and Bayt 7 is the new home of GMR Studio.

To honour the legacy of the Village, I have given my new studio an Arabic name - Bayt Al Tasweer, or House of Photography in English.

Bayt Al Tasweer by GMR Studio showcases the unique Women in Ras Al Khaimah series, alongside my Life in RAK cultural storytelling collection, as well as a selection of Empowering Portraits featuring entrepreneurs & leaders.

Indeed, in true homage to the heritage of the Village as a community hub for trade, connection, and storytelling, Bayt Al Tasweer by GMR Studio is a creative space, working studio, and a retail shop.

Join us all for the Opening Night of The Souq at Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village on November 7th, from 5 to 8pm and be part of the new era of storytelling and memory making.

Well… that was a busy few months!

Traveling | Visiting | Partying | Working

And always staying playful, because playfulness brings lightness, even when life’s full.

Here’s a case in point.

Take Me To The River is the debut co-authored book from two of the UK’s leading writers, Vicky Allan and Jackie Kemp

A couple of weeks ago, I was commissioned to shoot their campaign photography and, known for my individual take on portrait capture, I didn't let the side down!

I suggested we dive into the glamour of the1960s swim caps.

Their eyes smiled. They got it.

There’s something joyful about a shoot where everyone leans into the idea; where concept meets connection.

And so we connected and I got the capture.

These iconic, signature shots are sure to stop you in your tracks in this fast-scrolling world of media.

Question: What shouts loudest; Colour or B&W?

From the Lens of Gillian M Robertson on Bill Bailey’s global Thoughtifier Tour.

As Bill’s official photographer, I’m chuffed my images formed the visual heartbeat of the multi-city Thoughtifier campaign.

My work appeared on the official poster and featured in a multitude of leading media, theaters & arenas across the UK, Europe, Scandinavia, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as brightening the London underground. One image found its way into the Scottish Portrait Awards.

Dare I say ‘not surprising’ as I have always found that photographing Bill is immortalising brilliance at work.

Indeed, this is my approach whenever I am assigned to create an Empowering Portrait for leaders, artists, authors, and all sorts of wonderful people.

In Bill’s case, nothing beats the stretch of being in the audience, camera in hand. I was tested as I played tag between camera exposure and stage lighting to ensure I captured the drama of Bill, his instruments, his band, and the ever-surprising special effects.

Thoughtifier reminds that being human is being flawed, or funny, and always full of feeling. This resonates, as I also look to create photographic testament to ‘everything is something to celebrate’.

Thank you, Bill, for taking us on an incredibly rich, thought-provoking journey - and for trusting me to capture your visual poetry.
