Yesterday, the aviation community lost two of its own.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Squadron Leader Ioannis Blesias, 40, and Flight Lieutenant Dimitrios Petrou, 37, who lost their lives when their Hellenic Air Force F-4E Phantom II crashed during its display at Athens Flying Week at Tanagra Air Base.

For us at AERO LENS, this tragedy hits particularly close to home. Through our many visits to Andravida over the years, we had the privilege of knowing the crew personally. Seeing familiar faces become part of such devastating news is difficult to put into words.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and friends of Ioannis and Dimitrios, their fellow airmen, and everyone at 338 Squadron and the Hellenic Air Force.

We will remember them not only as highly skilled aviators flying one of the most iconic aircraft in military aviation, but as the people we had the privilege to meet.

Blue skies and tailwinds, Ioannis and Dimitrios.
You will not be forgotten.
