Story time: September 25th, 2016, I bought my first camera. A Canon USA 80D with a kit lens.
There wasnât some lifelong dream of becoming a photographer behind it. I wasnât thinking about turning photography into a career. Honestly, I barely knew what I was doing with a camera.
I bought it because Iâd just finished my first tour working social media for Aerosmith on the Blue Army Tour. That tour I only had an iPhone and a GoPro, and while they worked pretty damn well for what I was doing, I realized I needed something a little better. It was mostly BTS stuff, because we already had a photographer on tour.
So I bought this.
I had absolutely no idea what that decision was going to turn into!!!
Less than a year later, I photographed my first full Aerosmith show in Munich, Germany. Somewhere along the way I stopped being the social media guy carrying a camera and became a photographer.
And now, almost exactly 10 years after buying that first camera, Iâve professionally photographed everyone from Aerosmith, Jennifer Lopez and Hollywood Vampires to Alice Cooper , Johnny Depp , postmalone , Tony Iommi , Ronnie Wood , YUNGBLUD and a whole bunch of people I never thought I'd see on the other side of my lens!
Iâve had my photos published in Rolling Stone , People Magazine , Harperâs BAZAAR and places I never wouldâve imagined seeing my name when I ordered that camera.
The funny thing is, I donât really remember having some big moment where I decided âIâm going to become a photographer.â
I just kept taking pictures.
Kept learning. Kept screwing things up. Kept getting better. Kept saying yes when somebody handed me an opportunity that I wasnât entirely sure I was ready for.
Ten years later, Iâm still learning, still screwing things up, and still wondering how the hell I ended up here!!
All because I thought my iPhone wasnât quite good enough for backstage photos.
Not a bad purchase. đ·
