One of my favourite lookouts from New Zealand’s South Islands. I loved it so much we came back the following day 😅
I hadn’t had super great luck with the weather up until this point, so it was so nice to see just a little bit of cloud and take it in. What a gorgeous lookout for such a gorgeous town. If you’re planning on going to Queenstown, check out Glenorchy as well; super cute and a lovely little town!

Wanting to find this location yourself? I ain’t gate keeping.
How to find: On the drive from Queenstown to Glenorchy, probably about 20mins before you reach Glenorchy. Accessible for a car but there is no sign for the turn off area. As many people can skip Glenorchy and instead only go to Queenstown, this spot doesn’t get photographed as much. Damn cute and do yourself a favour and add Glenorchy to your travel plans.

Very fortunate to get this amazing trifecta:
✅ Iconic Grampians landmark
✅ Milky way
✅ Aurora Australis

Exploring the Grampians for the first time, I was excited to get some Milky Way shots. On the early evening that I had planned to get this shot at the Balconies, I started getting notifications that the Aurora would be putting on a show. It was a case of make-do though; I didn't have all of my regular astro gear with me but I knew I wouldn't have time to go back and get everything before it stopped being visible. This resulted in only taking a single shot (I didn't have my startracker, lighting equipment or even my normal tripod set-up), with some lighting help by my lackie AKA wife, AKA photographer-widow and an iPhone. Hey, you make do when you have to, don't you?! I've tried taking a pano which I might try to edit later when I become less rubbish at Photoshop but in the meantime, I'm happy with this!

The Aurora Australis (or Southern Lights), happen due to the releasing of massive bursts of solar wind and magnetic fields. The ions within the solar winds interact with oxygen and nitrogen in Earth's atmosphere, producing these fantastic colours.

The sun hitting the autumn leaves at Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens. For Barb xx

I haven't posted in a while; I recently lost my grandma, Barb, and I just haven't felt too creative.

Barb was known to many as a brilliant and talented artist who explored various mediums and styles. To me though, her impact went beyond her artistic abilities. It was her personality and friendship that I will always remember her for. She was open-minded, annoyingly talented at anything she tried, fun, cheeky-as-all-hell, but most of all, inclusive. Her friendships defied age, interests, and personality; she could connect with anyone. She was the youngest 97-year-old I think I’ll ever meet. She was always excited to learn new things and embrace technology – she had Snapchat, Insta, and could even use a VPN. At our last catch-up, I even showed her ChatGPT!

The last time that we caught up a few weeks before she passed was pretty typical of our catch-ups: her current painting projects were scattered everywhere, she was proudly telling me all the different plans that she was going to do, and of course, offering Claire and me a gin and tonic or an espresso martini on arrival. The last photo I took of her totally sums up our friendship. It was a photo of her pretending to surf so I could Photoshop it because I said she should have a fun name badge on her door and she wanted to give everyone a giggle.

Nan loved seeing my photos and always encouraged me to share my work more regularly. Sorry Nan, I wasn’t great at that, I’ll try to do better. I feel so fortunate to have had her in my life, I was lucky that she was my grandmother but mostly, as a friend.

I’ll miss you terribly Nan xx

Sunday mornings by the beach.

20s, ISO 100, f/13, 24mm.

I was able to increase my shutter speed to 20s for this shot with the help of an ND filter by . They act like a pair of sunglasses on the lens, allowing you increase the shutter speed but still maintaining the correct exposure. I’m a big fan of doing as much as you can on location, rather than hoping to create in post.

Buying a set of filters are a must-have addition to your landscape kit if you’re taking photos of water, clouds or any movement you want to blur. If you’re thinking of buying into a filter system, shoot me a DM and I’d be happy to answer any questions, or head over to amykempphotography.com/gear to see what NiSi kit I use.

Who’s loving this warmer weather! 🙋‍♀️

I went back through some of my old drone shots today. These collections were all between about 6-8 years ago. Yikes. I couldn’t believe the amount detail I could still get from them!

The South Australian coastline is diverse and breathtaking - and Blanche Point is no exception!
From this aerial view, you can see the turquoise waters and rugged cliffs featuring layered sedimentary rocks (teaching Year 8 science is really paying off). Gull rock (bottom-right) usually is covered in seagulls but there was only a cheeky few this time.

🏖️ Maslin Beach, located about 40 minutes south of Adelaide. Crystal clear water, stunning cliffs and gorgeous white sand throughout. Famous for being the very first nudist beach in Australia; happy not to have any visitors the day I took this though 🙈

With a few days left of the year, I thought I'd show you a sneak-peak of a photo featured in my 2023 calendar. This shot was taken of Maslin Beach on a gorgeous summer's day. I'm thankful the beach was empty too 😅
