A few frames from this photo session with the Lumsden family 💛
It can feel daunting organising a photo shoot with little ones. Kids can be unpredictable, and it’s normal to feel anxious about how they may go during a shoot. Being a mum of three, I get it! I know the ups and downs, and in-betweens that come with keeping kiddos engaged. My goal is always to create a relaxed and joyful experience, for play and connection. Motherhood has taught me how to go with the flow, let go of expectations, and to just enjoy the ride. As cliche as it sounds, you gotta embrace the chaos. And I always bring that mindset to my shoots with you 🫶

Margot and Pilot on film 🎞️
Taken on a Canon TLb. To be honest, shooting with this camera is a bit of a hit and miss for me. I’m practising and I’m still learning 😌 I would love to include film into my offering for shoots in the future, but I’m not there yet.
This was taken last week. Margot in her op shop tinkerbell dress, the two of them lazing on the dog bed - a familiar sight in our house.

Bali Baby.
Some shots I took of Attilio and Jay from our July trip to Bali. Our two families shared a villa for two weeks. Combined, we totalled at 4 adults, 6 children, and 1 baby. A traveling circus.
I took these photos one afternoon post-swim. This one contented baby amidst the chaos of the household. I joke about how crazy it is going on a holiday with all the kids, but honestly, it was one of the happiest trips of my life so far. And definitely the best holiday my kids have ever had ❤️

I read somewhere recently that getting your photos taken is an act of self-love. If somebody knows which photographer said that, please let me know because I’ve forgotten!

It’s something I completely agree with. There are acts of self-love that can be uncomfortable, like going to the dentist. A photo shoot, on the other hand, ought to be not only comfortable, but also fun.

For most of us, it can feel a bit silly. Just the idea of a photo shoot can feel awkward, uncomfortable, even a bit cringe.
I get it. I totally get it.

But what you’ll realise is this. It’s actually an opportunity to connect with the ones you love. To focus on one another. To interact. To play. And yes, to laugh at the silliness of it all. The irony of that being, it can make for some great photos.

No forced smiles. No “say cheese.”

Having a newborn shoot done is just as much about capturing you as it is about capturing your baby.

So often, mums become the unofficial photographer for their family and end up missing from the photos.

But one day your babies will be grown, and they’ll want to look back on these photos and they’ll want to see their mum.
YOU will want to see yourself.

So don’t be shy. Be in the photos. Celebrate the chapter of life you’re in now before it becomes only a memory ❣️

What to consider when deciding on a location for a photo shoot?

There are an abundance of beautiful places to shoot in that can result in stunning photos, but something else to think about is this: Does the location hold any particular meaning to you?

Maybe it’s your family home, with toys strewn on the floor and the children’s drawings on the fridge.

It could be the gardens you got married in.

The walking trail you like to go on as a family.

The creek your kids like to play in.

The photos that show a part of your story and family history are the ones you’re going to treasure the most down the road. You’ll care less about the aesthetics of it all and more about the memories it brings back.
